I just have no idea what to do. My husband was mowing a neighbors yard today and scared a little brownish bunny out from under their deck. He said when he sat down close to the bun, it was friendly and crawled into his lap. It doesn’t really look like a wild bunny but doesn’t look like any bunny i’ve ever seen either. He asked a few of our neighbors if they had ever seen the bunny and they said no so he brought it inside (It was REALLY hot today and we didn’t know what to do with the bunny)
We really didn’t want to leave him outside but I have no where to put him, we live in a small house with our three bunnies occupying different rooms. I’m not sure if he is wild (I really doubt it) or if he belongs to a neighbor or what..
There are tons of stray cats around here but stray rabbits?? I don’t even know many people around here who have rabbits period. It’s just bazaar.
Anyway i’ve already taken on more than I can hadnle just having unexpectedly adopting a blind lop.
Can you post a picture? We can probably tell you if it’s wild or not. As far as stray bunnies… some people turn their rabbits loose when they are bored of them to be “free” out of some misguided sense of “well, there are wild rabbits, so a captive one would survive”. So, it is more common than you might think to have a stray one.
I’ll post a picture. It looks way to young for someone to already be bored of it ![]()
The image is too big. i’ll upload it to my profile
Idk sorry its too big I can’t upload anywhere :/
Can your open it in paint box, then go stretch/skew or resize and drop it down to 30%
If you are using a phone or tablet open the pic go into setting / properties and you should be able to select a smaller size 600ish*400ish is good.
So sorry, I SUCK at computers. Need to figure out how to delete comments..
Oh man I thought it uploaded that last time..
There!^
Hard to see the pic. If I squint my eyes, I can make out the ears. They don’t look very cottontail-ish to me. Do you have a better pic? Wait, where are you? Are you in the US?
I’ll try to get a better picture! Took me forever to get that one up :p
I live in southeast mo, US. Doesnt look wild to me either. Pinkish eyes..
Does look domestic. As for being too young, a LOT of people buy rabbits for children. The child sees it isn’t a cuddly pet, it gets shoved into a cage, the parent gets tired of cleaning after it after about a week and off goes the bunny. Many rabbits are abandoned before they are ever a year old. Given pet stores sell rabbits anywhere from 4 to 10 weeks, it isn’t out of the question it could be a release. But, to be on the safe side, put up flyers / craigslist ad / let the vets and shelters know you found a bunny. Keep back an important part of identifying him though, so you know it goes to the right people – a mark, a color, a quirk whatever that would be known by the owners but still lets you give a general description. It could be someones pet that just got loose when they opened a door, or they took it outside to play and it ran off, or outdoor pet and the door didn’t let latched properly, etc.
thanks,
That is not a wild bunny unless your wild rabbits are a chocolate colour.
It really doesn’t look wild to me but what kind is it?
From what I can see, he doesn’t appear to be a wild bunny. I agree with Sticker, get it out there that you found a stray bunny. If nobody claims him, then you can think about keeping him or finding him a new home.
Here is a better picture. He is VERY friendly..
Oh my, look at those ears! Definitely someone’s pet! How cute! =D
How big is he now? He looks like a young giant breed like Flemmie or something.
I live in Missouri! Def doesn’t look wild. I agree with others. Try to find owners and if you can’t find any keep it or find a good home! ![]()
Hes smaller than my 10 week old Hollad Lop. Seems pretty small to me but I also think he looks very young. And he is surprisingly SO friendly.
Wow those are some big ears for a baby!
Yeah but I was guessing he was like 6-8 weeks! :0
Oh, he’s gorgeous! Definitely not a wild bunny.
I agree with Jessie. Try to find the owners. He may have gotten out by accident, you never know. Put up flyers in the neighborhood, etc. If you are unable to find the owners, can you keep him temporarily until you find him a home. Are there any rabbit rescues in your area?
He sure looks sweet.
If he’s not a lost pet, his being “set free” so extremely young may be explained by people having an oops litter of baby bunnies and releasing the babies as soon as they began to ween.
Oh I hope there aren’t any more abandoned bunnies in our neighborhood
We really can’t even keep this one as much as I want to. We JUST took in a blind lop a few weeks ago and have to others already. He is VERY sweet though. And outgoing.
Ugh. I really wish I lived by you. He’s so cute. I really want a Swedish hare.
I really wish you could have him.. I am thinking he is a Swedish Hare/Rex or Mini Rex cross. Is there any way you could come get him? It would be worth it, of all the bunnies i’ve had he warmed up the fastest. Like, immediately. He is SO friendly. When I walk towards him he runs up to me.(:
He is the only bunny i’ve ever met that ENJOYS being held so much. We won’t be able to keep him here long. We are trying to figure out what to do with him :/
Poor bunny he is so sweet and cuddly, he needs a really good home. I don’t want him cooped up in a cage or neglected :/
