Hello, 10 minutes ago I went inside my baby’s room with her usual veggie plate. Usually, she would sprint out to greet me and stand up and place her paws on my legs to beg for food and would follow me all over the room until I put her food down. But today I went in and greet her like I always do but she just sit in her sleeping cube so I thought she’s tired and left the plate down next to her and spot clean her floor since she’s not quite litter trained but she’s very good so far. I found a mixture of big round poop and tiny poops. At first, I thought that she’s might got stressed out by foreign noises. She’s not eating her veggies! she took a bite out of her fav treat then just ignored it. I feel like she’s sick and I don’t know how to help her. Instead of jumping down from her cube, she walked down very slowly today to greet me and lie down next to me. So I thought she might have gas or something then I wiggle her belly side to side ( usually if there’s gas it will make a noise) but there’s none. I don’t know what’s going on and she’s my first rabbit. She was eating like normal this morning (~1/8 cups of pellets, tons of hay, 1 chamomile flower, 1 dandelion flower, 2 dandelion leaves, and clover) ( all from our backyard so they’re safe). Nothing new today.
please help me I really don’t know what’s wrong with my baby. ![]()
GI STATIS!?
How many hours is it since her morning feed?
Will she let you gently massage her tummy some more?
Has there been new noises that might have frightened her?
Some species of clover is not good for your bunny and can cause tummy upsets if eaten too much. Does her tummy feel bloated? When you put your ear up to her tummy do hear any gurgles at all? You can try simethicone (like “Baby Tummies” which is a gas med), but due to the fact she is having trouble moving around sounds like she could be in pain too and getting lethargic. Are her ears very cold? I would get her to a vet as soon as you can.
It’s also important to keep your bunny warm if you feel your bunny is not feeling well and their ears are very cold. (This is different than the normal “cool” or slightly “warm” ears). Being that this is your first bunny, you may not have “snuggle-safe” warming disc but your own body heat can help. Having your bunny lie on your chest/stomach for a while can help keep her warm. Having blankets and snuggly things in her hide box or area where she sleeps (unless she chews on them!) can help. Sometimes too moving around can help get the gi tract moving as well.
Keep offering her fresh greens as hydration is also important. Though if GI Stasis becomes too serious, the stomach will not even be able to digest the water and sub-q fluids are needed from the vet.
These are not things to do instead of seeking out vet care — this is just while you do so.
UPDATE!: I tried to feed her last night and got a scratch on my arm when I try to pick her up and hold her. I ended up syringe feeding her last night. The Vet are closed during midnight. she nibbled on some alfalfa hay then ignored it but at least it a sign of she’s feeling better. I slept in her room last night ( not comfortable at all since hay kept stabbing me but that’s alright). I massaged her stomach for around an hour last night, her stomach was abnormally big and hollow. is that normal? but It got smaller now. still monitoring her as much as I can. I had to work at 8 this morning. But when I got home she looks better now. I didn’t feed her any clover today due to the fact that it might be poisonous to her. I think we’re going to go to the vet tomorrow if that’s possible since I have to work at 8 until Monday and no one is willing to take her to the vet. I hope her condition won’t get worse.
That’s good she has has a bit to eat. Is she toileting at all? It’s a good idea to replace litter when they are not well so then you’ll know right away when they have pooped. If she continues not to eat or poop, you really cannot wait with getting her seen by a vet.

Perhaps she had a bit of gas. If the stomach (up closer to the ribs) is ever ballooned out and hard like a ball, that is an emeergency and a rabbit must get medical attention asap. If the stomach is not tight and hard, it is safe to give gentle massage to try provide relief and get things moving. The rest of the intestine is lower down the body and can feel soft and doughy. It can get gas pockets also that might make a bunny uncomfortable. Sometimes some infant gas relief formula containing simethicone can help, along with gently massage.
Is your rabbit moving around much at all?
Healing {{{vibes}}} !
It was ballooned out but it was not hard cuz I tried to gently push it to check. I think she got some minor gas pocket that makes her uncomfortable. She’s toileting but her poop is not as big as they used to. she’s eating some hay and veggie now. I’m trying to cut down her pellets from now since it’s a carb and it can make things worse. she is moving around but don’t sprint like she always do. She hops here and there and did small binkies earlier
How is your bun doing today?
she’s starting to be herself again ( thank god) but she still eat very little </3 and I think she's losing weight. I've been trying to feed her some alfalfa hay and young rabbit pellets mix with her normal pellets
It can take some time before they get back to normal eating and normal-looking poop after a bout like this. It does sound like it might have been gas. Simethicone gas drops are good to keep at home for instances like these, it can safely be given on suspicion of gas according to both Medirabbit and dr Dana Krempels.
I’m glad to hear she is feeling better.
ty for your help guys, where can I get simethicone
Any drugstore, grocery store or walmart. Usually in the digestive meds section. I use the brand “Ovol”.
