I took Rufus to the vet yesterday to have him vaccinated.

The vet was great and gave him a thorough check up before the shot. Rufus went a bit crazy! He was scrambling all over the place and trying to scratch the vet. As soon as the vet let go of him he dashed across the table and climbed me like a tree. He was on a bench about waist high and he somehow managed to climb up onto my shoulder. Then he snuggled against my neck and wouldn’t come down. The vet asked me to hold him still while he got the actual shot because he was worried he’d jump off the table but he was fine, didn’t even flinch. Lastly he tried to pick him up and put him on the scales and Rufus went nuts! Scratched him all over, the poor vet. After Rufus tried to climb me again the vet asked me to carry him over to the scales and he was a perfect angel. He even purred a little.

As I was leaving the vet said “Rufus, you’re an eccentric little guy aren’t you? I’ve seen some very strange rabbits in my time but never one with an attachment disorder.” Then he said to me “I’m putting a note in his file that you should always be the one to pick him up.” That’s my little weirdo!

Awww your poor vet. I’ve heard of bunnies acting like that. While they might hate being held, they will gladly cuddle up to you if it means getting away from the scary guy with a needle. Lesser of two evils I guess…

My bunny holds me personally accountable everytime we have to go to the vet.  I get the silent treatment for hours (sometimes days) afterwards so count yourself lucky…

            Awww…..he loves you. So sweet.

I’m always surprised at how well bunnies handle getting needles. Mine have needed several in the past for pain meds, motility and IV fluids and they barely flinch. They can be tough little buggers when they want.
