        Hey Everyone

I just wanted to know what are the early warning signs for EC and what they look like? I’ve read and read and everywhere I can find symptoms that are more advanced and then I hear things like “wet eyes”. Well my Lil Bun Bun has always has a little crusty eyes since I got her- right when they are able to be weaned. Everything I read is saying this is perfectly normal- which it does look like.she presents no other issues and eyes are clear. So I’m wondering when does that wet eye go from “normal” to “ concern”?.

Current thinking is that lots of bunnies have EC – many are born with it and inherit it from their mothers, but in most bunnies it stays dormant, and it’s not always clear what causes it to flare up.

I haven’t heard of wet eyes being a sign of EC though. Generally, you don’t see EC signs until its more advanced – that might be neurological problems like head tilt, or hind paralysis, or excessive peeing caused by a kidney infection.

So, aside from EC, wet eyes would become a cause for concern if the fur around the eye was always wet, if the eyes looked red or inflamed, or if there were crusty bits on the eyelid. If it’s just a crumb in the corner like humans get, that’s not concerning, but bunnies often appreciate if you pick it off for them.
