My rabbit Cocoa ended up with an ear injury about 2.5 weeks ago after a fight with my other rabbit Nico. We took her to the vet, and they gave us antibiotics and super glued her wound, but warned us it probably wouldn’t hold. Recently, the wound separated again. I checked her ear today, and noticed some slight swelling and discoloration. Should I take her to an emergency vet? Or is this something that can wait 24 to 48 hours.

Something that can wait a day or two, unless it starts to look worse later/tomorrow. Swelling and redness is a sign of infection. Have you been treating the wound with anything?

I agree with Mikey. Doesn’t look alarming. If you have a mild disinfectant you can clean the wound. Triple antibiotic cream (without an added painkiller) can be used on rabbits.

The pictures are ok imo. Bite wounds to the ears are common in rabbits. This doesn’t even look particularly nasty.

I would expect it to look more red if it was inflamed from infection. Does it have a bad smell? The darker skin next to the one cut kind of looks like the skin is dying in that spot, though it could simply be a part of the healing/infection process.

I agree, not an emergency, but with the discolouration it might be worth a follow-up visit
