Dry skin and a small bit of fur missing near eye..?

I’ve looked all over the internet to see what could be wrong, but nothing matches up.

There is no discharge.

Her eyes are as bright and beautiful as always.

No strange coloration in her eyes.

I’ve checked for mites.

It’s just a very small spot (about the size of a pencil eraser) where the skin seems dry and there’s no fur.

It’s been that way for a bit, but it never seemed to bother her, before. Lately, though, she’s been scratching a bit more often than normal.

She’s still eating, drinking, grooming herself, pooping, regularly. 

She’s still running around, binkying, playing with her toys.

So, aside from a bit of scratching everything seems normal…

Is it possible she just has some dry skin?

And, if so, is there something I can do to help her?

It could be the start of a moult.
You can try putting some bag balm on it for the dry skin and if she goes into a proper molt like in a week, that’s probably it. If instead it gets worse and/or she starts scratching herself more, it’s something that needs treatment.

If it’s ringworm, a fungal disease (that has nothing to do with actual worms) that causes circular bald spots, you’ll need to treat it with an antifungal medicin. A small patch of missing fur with dry, dandruff-like skin-flakes can be fur mites. These are common in rabbits and need treatment with preferably selamectin (Revolution in the USA and Australia, Stronghold in Europe). A fur mite infestation more often starts on the back/neck area though.

I did look into ringworm, but I don’t think that’s it. It doesn’t look nearly as bad as any of those pictures I’ve seen…

If it’s got something to do with molting that would make since, considering she actually has started molting. I’ll look into the bag balm. It worries me a bit, though, because the spot is so close to her eye and I wouldn’t want her (or me) to accidentally get it in there..

She is going in for a check-up fairly soon, so I’ll bring it up while we’re there.

In the meantime I’ll keep an eye on it and hope it’s nothing serious.

I was thinking bag balm just to soften the skin some, but you don’t have to put anything on it if you’re afraid it might get in her eye, many bunny owners use bag balm, so it’s just a bunny-safe alternative. I have used an organic bees-was cream on my bunnies, that’s safe too.

On your pics there’s nothing that looks (she’s a very beautiful bunny!) bad but there is a molting line on her forehead, which makes me think this is just molting. Anyway, this is nothing you have to rush off to the vet for, so keep an eye, if it gets worse – not the molting, bunnies often molt in patches and can look positively mangy while they do, but the skin on the hairless spot – you can contact your vet and have a skin-scraping done.

Are u sure there’s not something like an excess of tears?
When my rabbits eye problem started, her face looked like that and when she scratched, she was actually removing the wetness on the area so I didn’t notice the leaking at first. But the leaking caused the dry skin and lack of hair (cos the hair goes hard and gets ripped out, when she scratches). So it was only later I found out her eyes were leaking

Ah, okay. I’ll look into the bag balm and see if I can get at least a little on there so that Ivy doesn’t have to be so uncomfortable.

I signed up for this site so that I could stop trying to take her to the vet every single time something seems different. 

Because I live in such a small town, her vet is about three hours away, so if something is wrong I need to take her the second I notice… Because three hours is a long time if there’s an emergency.

Oddly enough, she’s been pretty healthy her whole life aside from some sniffles, because she used to crawl under my bed and get dust on her. (That’s why I actually took my bed down. I sleep on mattresses on the floor just so Ivy’s curiosity doesn’t get her sick.)

Still, though, I don’t want to risk anything. If there ever was an emergency I would just have to take her to the local cat and dog vet and hope for the best… Their site says they take care of rabbits, too, but none of them actually have worked with them, so…

Yeah.

Plus, her birthday’s coming up and I don’t want to spend all her birthday money on unnecessary trips.

I mean, I guess her wiping away any tears she has would be a possibility, but I don’t think that’s the case.

My bedroom is bunny-proofed and she’s litter trained, so her cage door is always open and she is allowed to come and go as she pleases. She usually prefers staying next to (or on top of) me and she likes to play and get her fur brushed all the time. Since I work late at night I spend all day with her and I don’t think she’s been scratching nearly enough to be wiping it away and keeping it so well hidden all day every day.

We’re pretty much always right next to each other… And I do check her every day to make sure she’s alright.

I assume I would have seen something.

I will pay more attention to that, though. I didn’t even consider it, so I’m glad you brought it up!~

I don’t actually know any other rabbit owners, so it’s really hard to know if something is wrong. 

I look up information, of course, but I don’t know what sites for rabbits are actually reputable.
