So I work as a paramedic and it looks like I’m going to spend another Christmas eve and day working… I know it comes with the field I just wish I could have one or the other off…last year I barely saw my family and this year it’s looking the same. I love my job just wish sometimes it was more flexible. This is killing my holiday spirit…I have a lot to be thankful for but really just hope this works out…Just really needed to get this off my mind plus my poor bunnies will be spending Christmas alone

Hugs to you. I know that even when you work a job that comes with the expectations of working holidays it doesn’t make it any easier. My husband is a retired chef and he always worked the holidays…I hated it, but he didn’t seem to mind.

Remember that your rabbits don’t know it’s Christmas…that is for you and that’s okay to feel bad that you cannot spend a special time of year with them.

I hope you get some extra days off to spend with your friends, family and fur babies.

Aww that sucks. I know back when my mom worked in a hospital, they made sure that if you worked alternate Christmases, so you’d at least get every other year off. Too bad that doesnt happen for you

I’m really sorry. I hope you get to celebrate on another day though I know that’s not really the same.

Aww, I know how you feel – I trained/certified as an EMT-B and had a Christmas shift one year too. Thanks, though, for being willing to give up your own Christmas like this so the rest of us can have a little more peace of mind for the holiday.

but for fun,, you and the other ambulances can compete to see who gets the most major hand-cut injuries from people trying to open those plastic clamshell cases without scissors.

Lol luckily I only deal with the more serious calls so unless they cut an artery or a limb off We don’t get called

I don’t work in your line of field, but I do work in retail. It is my first year in a grocery store and it is going to be pure hell. I might have to work Xmas Eve. Most people have to work 6 days a week the week before Xmas. None of my coworkers are very happy right now.

{{Vibes}}} I work in healthcare too and admire (HUGELY) all of you who work the hoidays and weekends so we can be healthy. At my work they rotate xmas and new years so that you have one off, and every year it rotates. Also the new bargaining made xmas a superstat-so double time for the whole day, and two days off paid in lieu. I hope there is some sort of system like that for you? Or perhaps you can name a different date to celebrate? *hugs* to you and family and Merry Christmas-whatever day that works out to be *hugs*

i cannot wait for xmas to be over so i can take a sunday off without fear of falling so far behind that i cant catch up..

No special holiday schedules for us 🙁 we get holiday pay but it’s just time and a half so it’s better but not great… This is my 3rd Christmas in a row but at least this year I have new years off. I just feel bad because I feel like I have to limit time with my family and with my parents being divorced and living 2 hours apart things get tougher….I’d be happy to have Christmas eve off just really doubt it, but either way I’ll make the best of it and really hope everyone else can enjoy time with their families!

My dad has to work xmas eve and xmas day this year. He’s 2nd shift too. I think I have to work xmas eve. My husband’s family is doing something around lunch time on xmas day, so I told my mom we wouldn’t be up for doing breakfast this year. Sorry, but I can’t eat stuff for breakfast and then turn around and have ALL that other stuff at lunch time. So I think we’re going to do a different day or something.

It’s incredibly sad that paramedics are needed on holidays. It’s too bad the “bad things” can’t take a break for a day. I guess look at it this way, the people you are able to help are going to be eternally grateful, even if they don’t necessarily show it in the emotion of the event.

That is very strange that your department has had you working your 3rd in a row! My brother in law works christmas every other year. He has the 1 shift on, 2 days off.
