Does anyone have any favorite home-made doggy treat recipes?  I’ve never had a dog before, but I want to make something for my friend’s puppy.  I’ve found a few recipes online but I don’t know anything about dog nutrition…I know that if someone baked me bunny treats with seeds, nuts, and oats I would hesitate to feed the treats to my bunnies although sometimes I see things like that recommended online.  However, I know that a lot of you are very conscious of what you feed your dogs, so if you have any suggestions as to tasty healthy doggy treats I’d love to hear them!

I make peanut butter pumpkin cookies, dehydrated meats and sweet potato chews for my dogs. The cookie recipe I use calls for flour but since all of my dogs are gluten sensitive I use a gluten free flour. I don’t have a dehydrator any longer so I make the dehydrated meats and sweet potatoes in my oven.

          Peanut butter pumpkin cookies
          1 egg
          1Cup pure pumpkin
          1 tbsp cinnamon
          1/2Cup peanut butter
2Cups flour (gluten free or wheat)
          1 tsp vanilla

I baked them at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Cool cut into bite sized squares.

          Dehydrated Chicken “jerky”
          Preheat over 200°F
Cut thawed Chicken into thin strips
Bake for 2-2 1/2 hours (depending on how thick you make the strips)
You will know when they are done they will be firm and dry. If they feel soggy or wet they need more time.

          Sweet Potato Chews
          Preheat oven to 250° F
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Cut the potato into 1/3″ slices, no smaller than 1/4″.
Bake for 3 hours, turning half way through.
Cool completely on a wire rack.

I think if I made those peanut butter pumpkin cookies, I’d end up eating them all myself!
