Hi guys so Yuna went for her spay op on Monday so the fur on her belly is shaved. It was only on Tuesday night that I noticed that she has a cut on her belly, a distance away from her stitching from the op.

Nothing is oozing from the wound, just that there is slight redness around the wound. The centre of the wound kinda looks yellowy I’m quite worried if this is pus? or? Anyone has experience in the buns having cuts..?

Should I wait awhile longer and monitor the wound? If possible I want to try not to bring her down to the vet as she has been through quite abit of stress these few days due to the op and she is finally flopping and eating almost alright.

Here is the pic and thanks sooo much in advance guys!!

Pippi had something that looked the same after his neuter, the vet said it was self inflicted, a bite as a coping mechanism to the op, similar to the way some people self harm. He was already on antibiotics and it healed fast. He never did it again. thankfully.

Hi Gina, a bite?!  oh man…poor thing. didnt know buns would do that to cope with the op.

That’s gd to hear that pippi healed well.

I was still thinking it was my rough handling of her when trying to force feed her cc that caused her this cut.. Yuna isnt on antibiotics though, she only has med for pain and anti inflammatory.

Hmm… I think I will prob monitor it for awhile, other than that she seems ok! No fever (her temp feels ok) she is flopping and eating and pooping.

                Thanks for replying Gina!

I can see the pic now. I agree with GJ – I don’t think you caused it when you were trying to give her cc so don’t worry . Definitely keep an eye on it, as well as any potential additional wounds, and keep her litter box extra clean. As to her spay incision, it looks really good!

Roger that! I’ll make sure her xpen and litter box is spick and span. Thanks so much Luna!

Im feeling much more relieved now to hear that haha. I was freaking out at every small thing after the op, kinda hard to calm down haha but at least the worst is over

Yr welcome, like Pippi’s, you can see two parallel cuts, which would be consistent with it being done by the bun’s own front teeth x

it doesn’t look like more than a surface scratch in the photo.

Ooo i see that now. Silly me to think that it was a scratch from me or from her own nails

I accidentally cut poppy when she was little and it was pretty deep but I just kept it clean and in that same week it healed. so as long as you keep the wound clean she should be fine but if it starts swelling get her to a vet asap it might be infected and turn into an abscess.

Not infected per se, but it is rather inflamed and angry looking. Couldn’t hurt to add a bit of Neosporin to it .

Thanks blue moon! I’ll monitor and keep a lookout for swelling.
