For some reason today I have been thinking a lot about people who don’t do any reasearch and just go to the pet store and get a rabbit. Is is really annoying me and I wish people would actually do some reasearch before getting a rabbit. Rabbit are tons of responsibility about the same amount as a cat or dog. They need at least 6-8 hours out of there cage everyday they need a pretty big cage, toys ,etc. Rabbits are very expensive pets. You got to think… what if my rabbit gets sick it can be at least $250 to take it to the vet and to get a rabbit spayed or neutered it can be $500 in some places. Plus the cage is going to be expensive and all the things you need to buy regularly (food, litter, hay, toys). This annoys me. People just see a rabbit at the pet store or online and buy them. They go to the store and get a tiny cage and a tiny bag of hay and give the rabbit hay as a treat when it is %75 of a rabbits diet! Now I want to clarify this… I’m not saying everyone is like this. Lots of people do their reasearch before getting a rabbit. I could say so much more in this post but I wanted to keep it semi short. I was just wondering if this is annoying to anyone else.

I think what annoys me more is that they are so available, almost given away and sellers don’t always provide information to new owners. There is no real guidelines on the sale of some animals.

I was one of those uneducated people that bought a rabbit completely on impulse without research. I look back now and think how the store never ever tried sell me any other products. Cage, litter, food! They just handed over the rabbit (Jersey) in a cardboard box and off I went. For me, I very quickly started learning after I got her. Not ideal, I know, but we got there. I think of some of the things I potentially could have done, not knowing better, that could have endangered her life.

I did get her vet checked early on and they gave me a booklet on how to care for her. I also I borrowed books and found sites online to learn more. Binky Bunny was critical in my education and I haven’t stopped learning since.
