Does she need to be re-trained?

In the past two weeks, Dorothy has been peeing more and more outside of her pen. My boyfriend and I let her roam in the apartment, and before this week she has only had maybe 2 or 3 accidents mostly when she is able to jump on the couch. She is no longer allowed on the couch, but she will sometimes pee on a blanket if it is left on the floor, or she will now pee on the area rug. This has been happening once a day now. There have been no changes that would stress her out, no changes in her diet, and she does not appear to be sick, she still has an appetite and poops the same, and she still has the same energy level. I even tried putting an older blanket in her pen, so she can pee on that in the pen, but she ignores it completely. Do you think she just needs to be re-trained?

Yes, she is. And she was never quite this bad at her litterbox training before. We have had her since August. I hope she’s not sick!

I doubt she is sick, so no need to worry

As a rule, rabbits like to pee on soft things. Try not to leave the blanket where she can get to it, and if you have to, find something to throw over the couch like a shower curtain to help protect it. You can try putting a new litter box on the rug she likes to pee on

It could also be territory. With new freedoms comes expanded territory. She very well could be marking it so nobunny else thinks they can move into ‘her’ room She should stop after a week or two if it is territory, otherwise i would work on trying to retrain her

So, a little update. She is really good about using her litterbox when she’s inside her pen. However, when she’s outside her pen, she’s still peeing everywhere. Well, I shouldn’t say everwhere, she is peeing everywhere around our rug. She used to have a problem with peeing on the rug, presumably because it is soft, but now she is even peeing just off the rug, on the floor. EVEN WHEN WE PUT A LITTERBOX OUT for her right by where she most enjoys to pee, if she is on the other side of the rug, she will still pee right where she is at. The rug is her main play area and she spends a lot of time outside her pen when we are home. I don’t want to take the rug away from her, we will probably have to get a new one anyway, but I would hate to not allow her on that too. I love to lay down with her on the rug and pet her while I watch TV. Any advice?

Note: She mostly does this when she is running around excited or when she is waiting, looking around for treats. It’s almost like she’s so excited she wets herself.
