Does Olly Bunny know I’m blind?

As some of you know I have really, really bad eyesight, I was sat in the dark because of these Migraines, I couldn’t see Olly, so I tried to see if he was in his cage, I couldn’t see him, so I tried to look in his playpen, nope, so I sat on the floor and said. “Hmm, can’t see my Olly, I wonder where he is? I can’t see you baby.” Then he rattled his ball with a bell inside, I knew he was on the right hand side of his playpen, I said. “Tell Mummy where you are please.” He came up to his pen bars and made a grunting sound and brought his ball with him and made the bell ring and put his nose out, I said. “There you are my clever boy.” And he started nudging my finger, does he now I cannot see very well?

Its not the first time he has done things like this.

I think Olly must know that you do not see very well because of the way he reacts. Also, he is the smartest bun I’ve ever met! He called you from the house phone for crying out loud .

That is really cool! Olly is so smart!
I’ve seen rabbits show similar cleverness but not equal. My rabbit once pushed one of her houses against another so that she could build a make-shift ladder in her backyard run and jump the four-foot tall fence, but Olly is very smart and also seems to care for your happiness. That’s awesome!

I’ve often wondered the same thing. My bun is free range so whilst I stumble around my dark house, I worry about accidentally stepping on her. I never have, but I wonder if I was about to, would she move? In my opinion though, I think rabbits lack the cognitive ability to understand that the reason we stumble all about and walk in aberrant patterns is due to us being unable to see. Rather, I think they just assume it is a normal behavior of ours and ignore it. I guess we’ll never truly know
