I have a small pug faced dog and when he sleeps he lets out the sort of light wheeze sound when he exhales. Tonight i have noticed Bugz doing the same sort of sound but his eyes are open but he does seem to be falling asleep.
he has been hoping around like normal today and eating and pooping fine i am trying to get a video of it but as the noise is very quiet the camera i have is not picking it up will keep trying. he has no discharge on his nose, his eyes seem clear so no signs of illness outside of this sort a wheeze. Sometimes is has almost like a hicup at the end, it’s very strange.
ETA – posting this made the computer make noises and now he is sitting up looking at me and breathing fine no noise it seems to be when he is falling alseep or asleep he makes these noises is this normal?
I’ve never noticed snoring… I can hear them breathe sometimes… if it’s very, very quiet.
Ok did some research and came across this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBo8yc4_DzA – not as loud as this but same sort of noise
Also found this – http://en.allexperts.com/q/Rabbits-703/Sneezing.htm
I am going to keep an eye on it and if it gets worse or he starts sneezing then we will go to the vet but at them moment maybe he is just snoring
My rabbit Mango snores – he makes all kinds of noises – he’s a very vocal rabbit. None of my others do though.
I am staring at the Snoring Coco right Now.
Her eyes will be partly open, but she is asleep. Sometimes they are closed and she is asleep and snoring. If I stare at her for awhile, she will come to and look at me like I am insane.
She has always Snored.
Jackson? Silent Sleeper.
thanks guys I was really worried that he was sick but today he is 100% normal. he also a vocal he honks and does this purr type thing when Anya grooms him and also does a bark thing (not a real bark but sort of sounds like one) when he is annoyed with me (normally when I am cleaning the cage)
I remember being at the shelter one day sitting next to a bunny who was snoring away – I could not believe he did not wake all the other bunnies up. He was soooo loud!
My buns sleep with their eyes open lots of the time. it is kinda creepy.
The only bunny that makes noises when they sleep is Gracie. I wouldn’t say she snores…. It’s a little creepy when you’re home alone and you hear this almost female whimper. I thought my house was haunted
and then I looked behind the recliner and there was Gracie, sound asleep!
I’m not sure if she’s having a nightmare or what, but when she’s in a deep sleep she’ll whimper a bit.
I discovered today it only happens when he sits in his meat loaf position not when he is flopped so i am going with the soft palette thing. However now i am worried he is over weight! (I am sure he is not)
That’s exactly how Gracie sits when she does it. She’s not overweight. But I hardly ever see her flopped over. (meatloaf is her favorite sleeping position I guess). Better to be overweight than underweight though.
true i guess
I remember when I was on another bun forum, a lady said her rabbit snoring. She said it sounded like a guinea pig, if that helps ![]()
it’s snoring, I rang the emergency vet while he was doing it really loud and held the phone up and she said that it was snoring (she was the rabbit vet on duty) another rabbit vet I know said that she will have a look at him when she comes to my party next weekend but i am sure that it is just snoring now, but god sometimes it’s loud!
It’s always a surprise to hear bunnies making noises when you expect complete silence. It’s good that he’s going to get looked at, if only so you can know what his normal sounds are. Then if you hear something different, you will be able to tell if there’s something possibly wrong.
I was once over at my parent’s house with Spockie, and he’d gone behind a favorite chair. Mum and I were across the room talking, and I suddenly said “Spockie’s having his bath.” She said he was sleeping. I said no, he was washing his face. We couldn’t see him. She tiptoed over to peek, and he was washing. She said “How did you know?” I could hear him. The tiniest of sounds, but I recognized it.
Now I’m intrigued. I’m going to have to start listening a little bit closer. It’s not uncommon for us to have noise in the house at all times, so it may be that they’re doing it, I’m just not hearing it.
I keep intending to keep the little Flip video recorder nearby so I can record Coco doing it!
Otto has never made a sound like this, but as soon as I heard the YouTube bunny I was reminded of one of my gerbils. The house would be totally silent and then I would hear this weird squeaking/snoring noise. I’d tiptoe over and find out it was my tiny little gerbil making the noise.
Hi me and my girl friend just got a baby rabbit. Lil female unsure of breed. But we noticed her make in sum kinda of grunting noise. She only does it when she is sleepy. Did it once while eating. And once while goin potty. But the sleeping is the most she does it. I was lucky enough to have my phone handy I recorded it put it on my photobucket. Link below. Also she has been sneezing. And her fur feel a bit cold 73+degrees in the home. She is very active eats a lot an drinks fine ( had to use a baby syringe no water bottle at the time.) but she sneezes “coughs” and shakes. I’ve never had a bunny before and she is really cute and smart. Want to keep her around. If anyone could gimme sum info that be great thanx.
Snoring bunny??
