Do Different Bunnies Have Different Colored Skin?

Ok first of all, this is my first time using this. Second, I haven’t had a pet in a really long time so I don’t know a lot about them. Anyways, a while ago I noticed my bunny had a small bald spot on her back. She was acting normal so we didn’t think anything of it. By a week it had turned blue. She does go under the couch often, so we thought she was hitting her back on it and got a bruise. A few days ago I looked at the rest of her skin and it was also blue.. It isn’t a bruise. The blue has traveled right up to her sweat glands below her ears. Her ears, neck, legs and other visible skin is all a normal color. I have found this very strange, but her bald spot is growing back it seems but I still don’t know about her skin.. Is this normal? She’s been acting normal, and she seems ok to let us touch it. She has been super tired lately, but she almost never sleeps. I’ve also noticed small white things that look like dandruff, and I know it’s not mites. I would really appreciate if anyone replied/knew what is happening and if you think she’s going to be fine. I don’t have a vet to take her to, neither can I have a vet for her, so I really rely on the Internet to help me raise her.

I have never heard of this happening so i would really advise you to head to a rabbit certified vet to have them check since it could be something life threatening based on what i found on google. Is there a reason you cannot go to a rabbit certified vet? What i found on google says it could be a very bad bruise, a worsening blood clot, or she ate something with blue die and is now coming through her pores.

Was your bun molting when the bald spot appeared? What colour is your bun – does she have patches? Can you include pictures? It might be helpful to members in forming their opinions.

But if the coloured skin patch is changing from day to day, I agree with Mikey that trying to see a vet would be best.

Any updates? How old is the bun? They can change considerably in color when they go from babyhood into adulthood and the skin can be differently colored. My Bam has partially black skin, parially pink (his fur is all-black) – it’s of course only visible when he’s molting. It’s normal for buns to shed in patches, those that do can can look really bad during shedding, but then the new fur sprout like fine velvet on the bald patches.

As for a little bit of “dandruff” it can be just dry skin. Bam gets that on his ears, particularly when he’s shedding. You can use some natural beeswax cream on it or bag balm or something like that.

Thanks for all the replies! Her fur has grown back on her bald spot but the rest of her skin is still a blue color. It might just be her fur reflecting of the rest of her skin, but I can never be so sure. She was not molting at the time, and only have I recently noticed that some fur on her legs has come off. She is shedding though, so I am not super concerned about it. (This skin is not blue.) Bam thank you for your reply I think this is what is happening she is I want to say around two months old but we don’t know her exact age she may be younger at the least she’s a month old. I’m not super concerned about it anymore, since it has gone away. Anyways, thanks again for the replies!

Thank you for the update! It does seem likely that it just is her leaving babyhood behind her. If she’s eating and drinking and pooping and playing I think all is fine with her.
