I am thinking about getting an x-pen to litter train my Flemish Giants in. I will set it up around their litter boxes in their room. they keep pooping everywhere. and in their litter box. I think I gave them too much space too quickly so I think the xpen might just work. Any tips? and do they chew on the metal because I found one for $20 on craigslist but gold zinc metal. it is wearing away though so the real metal underneath shows. I thought that was a really good deal. it is 24 inches high and 16 feet in diameter. any sugestions?

        Thanks,
        Heather

          Hi Ellie&Alexa,
I’m pretty sure that rabbits don’t chew on x-pens. My bunny, Luna, has a cage surrounded by metal chicken wire that she hasn’t chewed.
Hope this helped, <3 Luna the Lop

I would be careful and keep an eye on your bunnies to see if they chew. Mine chews on her xpen EVERY day for long periods of time. It isn’t wearing away any coating so I’m not too worried. Give lots of toys, digging things, chewing toys, just stuff to divert their attention. They might not chew as much since you have two rabbits, mine is single.
I have no idea why my rabbit does it. She has a lot of chew toys but she prefers to chew on this one spot of her xpen. At first I thought she wanted to come out…but even when I open the pen door she ignores it and keeps chewing. maybe she likes the taste, idk.

I take boxes I get and break them down and weave them through the bars of the pen. Willow will always chew those over the bars if given the option. Even old toilet paper holders work.

Sometimes I’ll get willow or rose bush branches and weave those through as well.

I have big pear tree rounds that we drilled holes through and I’ll tie those with sisal to the sides of the pen too.

Willow HATES being penned and will definately shake the bars, so giving her lots of options seems to work.

omg the toilet paper roll is a good idea. I’ll have to wrap them around some of the bars next time.

That is a great idea!!! I’ll cut up some cardboard and weave it through, I also have the paper cardboard…they LOVE that stuff. It comes in boxes for packaging and I take it from work lol itll easily weave through.

They only chewed on the x-pen a couple times to see if they could get out at first. now they are calm. I bought one the $20 on craigslist. 8 2ftX2ft sections, can go in any shape to make smaller or bigger. I hate confining them, I feel so bad for them, I think i’ll take them out this evening and lay with them on the floor in the living room, they stay on a large piece of cardboard because they hate my hard wood floors (slippery)

They need cuddle time with mama
