When I bought Nermals new cage several weeks ago (as she has lost her bond with the others whilst she was at her Not So Forever Home) it did not come with a ramp. It’s quite large and on wheels but is about 2 feet off the ground. This was no good for a young lady rabbit who needed free access to her play area. I checked out pet ramps and steps online. They wanted $80 plus shipping for something that was barely a foot high and $375 and upwards for anything that would come close to bridging the gap. I’m sorry but I just could not afford that and buy food too. Necessity being the mother of invention I put y mind to work. Two days later I purchased a $12 wooden shoe rack with three shelves, a cheap non toxic door mat and a 50c pack of mini cup hooks.  Taking my staple gun I cut up and attached the door mat to one of the shelves. Attached two of the rack legs to the bottom to reduce the incline (which meant hop of pint was only 6 inches off the ground.) then attached the mini cup hooks to the top so it could be fastened to the cage door making it stable. Total expenditure less than $20, time spent, approx 1 hour result…. Very Happy Nermal who stampedes up and down the ramp with sheer delight.

The cage is bigger than it looks in the pics and the dark shape in one corner is Frank the Wonder Plushy Bunny. Nermal has the small area for when everyone is out and I give her atleast 2 additional hours per day in the large area with the day bed. Pipi and Nermal still manage to do battle through the bars of the condo and the Xpen. Roll on Spay Day, only a few weeks to go and plan B for Bunny can go into full effect.

Mend and make do. Thats the way to go! As long as she can go up and down the ramp safely, it certainly works. Keep an eye that she doesnt start chewing on the ramp, though.

She loves her ramp, although she got a little impatient the other day and launched out of the cage before I could get it hooked on. When I took the pics they had all had a busy morning and every bun was lolling about napping in their favourite spots. Nermals other favourite toy is the yellow paw print pet sleeping bag. She usually gets under it and roams about wearing it so none of her is visible underneath. The ramp has come up very sturdy and is twice her width, so far no interest in chewing on it.
