Dirty Paws

So Nimmy’s paws are REALLY dirty. His fur is white but the bottom of his paws are dark brown and the fur is also getting clumped together. He won’t really let me look at them, not an odd behavior, he’s not into people touching his paws. He jumped up on my bed the other day and left foot prints . It’s cause he’s chosen a new pooping spot, directly under his water bottle. The water bottle drips and wets the poop and he sits in it .

I’m trying to fix this, bought a bird cage water bowl to hang on the side of his cage, somehow he was able to pick it up and throw it, spilling the water all over and making it worse . I can’t just leave a bowl of water in the cage cause he steps in it and will actually splash around ‘digging’ the water out of the bowl, then he’s all wet. Ugh. Right now I’m giving his cage a deep clean (the wet poop makes it smell so bad) and I’m going to try and rearrange it. As I was cleaning it out I noticed his hay mat was covered in wet poo as well, so I’ll have to order more from the BB store, which made me think of posting on here. Should I clean his paws off? I was thinking of covering the drain in the shower and letting him stand in a tiny puddle for a bit then somehow blow drying him off or towel-drying. But I wanted to get an opinion on here first.

Try getting a heavy ceramic bowl. It will eliminate the water mess from the bottle and they really can’t toss them
Are his wet poops coming out wet or are they just wet because he seems to like playing in water?
I would try to wash his feet a bit. You could run the tub to have about an inch of water, put a towel down for traction and plop him in to soak his feet. Do this when the house is warm so he won’t get cold from getting his feet wet.

If I got a heavy ceramic bowl for his water he’d stand in it and splash around. My bunny is part fish apparently. And no his poops come out dry, it’s just the water bottle will drip and they get wet cause he poops directly under the water bottle. And yeah I think I’ll put him in the tub, didn’t think about traction though so I’m glad I waited for a response, I don’t need him slipping everywhere.

if the water bottle is dripping there’s something wrong with it or you’re not using it properly

when you fill it up you have to make sure to create a vacuum by turning it spout side down and then spout side up again (you will hear the ball move about and a little air bubble will come up)

if that doesn’t help you can give it a good clean in hot water which can remedy the seal ..
if that doesn’t work you can replace the washer that goes between the bottle and the spout

i these things all don’t work i think you need a new bottle

i rinse the nozzles every time i refill the bottles at both ends with cold water

 

if they’re getting bad i deep clean them in hot water with beer line cleaner (i have a beer fridge so it’s handy but clr or something similar that cleans water deposits will work too)  and !!!RINSE IT INCREDIBLY WELL!!!  you don’t want that stuff in the bun’s water supply

 

if you have hard water this is doubly important

 

i use super pet bottles.. they’re made of glass and seem to be the best i’ve found
