My 2 1/2 month old rabbit, mocha, is eating 1/2 a cup of young rabbit pellets a day. I have read to give unlimited pellets, is this true? I am also only feeding mocha Timothy hay because there is Alfa Alfa in her pellets, is this ok or should I switch to Alfa Alfa hay also. Thanks to anyone who answers my questions and helps me out!

Even though most food guidelines state to give young rabbits unlimited pellets, some people do just give a certain amount every day. Rabbits can be overfed, especially ones that are inclined to be piggy and finish off their pellets quickly, then have their bowls refilled. If your rabbit seems to be a good weight, and depending on the breed (larger rabbit breeds require more pellets) then the 1/2 cup is likely fine. It’s also fine to give her timothy hay or any of the other grass hays. Some rabbits love their alfalfa hay so much which makes them not want to eat timothy or other grass hays when it’s time for them to transition to them, so you have a head start on that. Make sure that she eats plenty of hay and in a few weeks, you can start introducing some greens to her. Be sure to go slowly when you do start her on greens. If you click on the BUNNY INFO link at the top of the page, then click on Healthy Diet, you will see links to two good articles on feeding veggies and fruits.
