She was pooping normal this morning, and midday but since then I haven’t seen any poop and I just checked her litter box and there was a small puddle like of brownish liquid, kind of thick, not thin enough to just go down like pee. She’s over 12 weeks now and I have her not even half of a collard lettuce leaf. When I saw the diarrhea she was laying down but I petted her and she go up and drank some water and is eating some hay, I was hand feeding her some of her favorite parts of her hay and she was eating just fine. I was also massaging her tummy and gave her baby gas relief drops. I have some leftover metronidazole liquid for diarrhea her vet gave her when she had runny stool a few months ago. I think I’m going to call the vet and hope they are still open and ask her about this. But any ideas what I can give her to help her feel better?

Do you have an er vet near you you can call? Diarrhea is a serious thing in buns. Make sure she still eats and keep massaging her belly. Does she seem in pain? Baby buns should be on alfalfa pellets and hay until they are older and no veggies yet. Some may disagree but it can upset their gi tract and cause diarrhea and their gut flora to become off. Metranitozol is amazing for diarrhea but that veggie might have upset her tract.

Yes I have a few Er 24 hr vet, I called her vet and they told me that I could give her the medicine I had for diarrhea, but she’s eating and drinking normal and if by later tonight if she isn’t pooping I’m taking her to the vet. The good thing is that she doesn’t seem in pain and I’ll be leaving the veggies for much later. I was so paranoid of something like this happening. I gave her veggies cause I thought I read that bunnies can have veggies at 12 weeks and she’s past 12 weeks now. When is the right time to give her veggies since she was weaned off at such a young age?

Are there normal poops in addition to the runny poop? If so, it’s not true diarrhoea (true diarrhoea is an emergency)

If there’s some solid poops, I would stick to just hay and water for a couple of weeks to reset her tummy. And possibly hold off on introducing veggies til she’s a bit older (another gew months)

If it IS true diarrhoea (no solid poops at all) then she definitely needs an emergency vet. I believe one of the risks of diarrhoea is dehydration.

There was solid poops, as of now she’s having more normal poops. They are are a little darker than usual but not so soft. Luckily I think she is doing much much better! I think the medicine helped a lot. Definitely will just stick to hay and water for now. I wonder when I can start giving her pellets again? She was doing really well with them! Will I have to restart the process of introducing it slowly again in a couple weeks?

I’m glad to hear she’s doing much better! I think you should reintroduce pellets slowly after a couple weeks on hay and water. Just to be safe.

The House Rabbit Society recommends intro of veggies at 12 weeks, so you didn’t do anything wrong. But all buns are different, some tolerate veg early and some don’t. I don’t think her tummy was badly upset, seeing that she seemed fine in all other respects, was eating and drinking etc. But better safe than sorry and all that. Hay is great for replenishing a disrupted gut flora. And with a really sturdy and diverse gut flora established, you have laid down the absolute best foundation for her long term health.
