Hello Everyone
I thought it was about time I introduced my 2 boys. I wanted to get a pet for a long time since moving out from my parents 2 years ago but because I work full time and live in an apartment I didn’t think it would be feasible. A work colleague said why don’t you get a house rabbit I was quite perplexed by this as I never known of a rabbit living in a house let alone be litter trained. So I searched the web looked up various sites such as BB and HRS and got lots of books from the library and decided I would go ahead and planned on getting two.
I initially wanted to get a Dutch as this was considered a good breed to get for a 1st time rabbit owner I enquired with a local breeder but they were not going to have any available until June but then I thought it would be much nicer to recue two of them and I would be able to get them sooner as I already had their hutch ready sitting empty since the beginning of March. So I emailed a local rabbit rescue and asked if they had any Dutch rabbits they replied the same day and said they had no dutches but they had two boys that were harlequins crossed with a dutch. I saw the pictures and fell in love with them straight away they were so CUTE I picked them up 3 days later on the 23rd April. The lady told me that their previous owners couldn’t look after their mum and their 4 other siblings so they took them in when they were just 6 weeks old. Their mum and siblings didn’t stay for long before being re-homed but my two no one seemed to want and they were there for 13 months before I came to collected them.
Their names are Dexter and Taz they had both been neutered before I got them and had just had their myxo vaccination. Dexter is the one that is slightly lighter in colour and a little bigger than Taz, they are both still a little skittish but I suppose that is to be expected as they have been in a shelter for 13 months and not handled as often as they should have been. I cannot believe how amazingly quick they learn thimgs as they are 16 months old I thought it would take ages to litter train but they did it in 24 hours. I was beginning to think they would never come out of their indoor hutch as I had not heard of anyone having to wait more than a week for their bunnies to come out it took them 3½ weeks. They went to the vets last Monday to have their VHD vaccination and got the all clear from the vet and had their nails clipped which the vet made look so easy.
I absolutely love having my two balls of fluff around even if they sometimes do get into trouble by digging up parts of my or rather THEIR carpet but I don’t think I could ever be mad at them they are so adorable and I just think to myself they are doing this because they are becoming more confident in themselves. I can’t wait for them to show their personalities a bit more and now I rush home from work just to see them.
I am going to try and attach pictures not sure whether it will work.
