I assume this wouldn’t render the hay harmful but just checking?

I would assume it wouldn’t unless there is a lot of dead ones in there. Just make sure there isn’t any mold or anything on the moth and if there is to throw away that section of hay and call the company and tell them what happened. I’ve had bags of empty trash in my boxes before ?

Empty trash?! Omg that’s awful! Luckily there didn’t seem to be anything gross on the moth (poor thing)

Probably just got sucked up into the machine, unfortunately.

I haven’t run into this problem yet, but I have a few friends who have found dead bugs in their rabbit’s hay. I don’t think it’s harmful, an annoyance at most. The best you can do is keep your fingers crossed it doesn’t happen again.

I had an entire sheep’s femur in a bag of hay once. My sister had most of a mouse. (This is in a couple of decades of keeping buns, it’s not a common thing.) Unfortunately the machines aren’t subtle in what they pick up.

                    I’m horrified

Who had the bird last year? Was it LPT?

                        I think it was Sirius

I had a bird’s wing. I think A&B had a whole bird that they named Tweety?

Ah yes, was it A&B that had the bird phobia too?

Haha nope, me with the bird phobia. I pulled out a weird clump of hay the other day and had a mild panic, but it turned out it was just a weird bunch of hay.

The things we do for our buns…

                                That’s right! Tweety!

I’ve found feathers many times. And the worse was a big nasty owl pellet (at least that was my best guess.) Lots of smooshed grasshoppers. I’m very surprised it doesn’t happen more often. In all my years of being a bunny Mom (over 15 years) and being a horse Mom (over 25 years), I’ve never seen any mice or anything in the hay. If you ever watch one of those hay tractors at work, they are so fast, how do all the little critters living in the hay outrun it? Maybe I’ve been lucky in never finding anything really horrible. Let’s hope the luck continues.

That’s a Pixar cartoon in the making: Into the Haystack

It might be to do with the hot weather we’ve been having, lots of moths here, they were in Olly’s water dispenser once, but he likes to smack them with his paws now, he doesn’t go near spiders anymore, he comes to get me.
