Sorry for posting a similar question to something that has already been asked, but I didn’t feel like it was the same sort of situation.

Twix is only 10 weeks old and I’ve been reading a lot of different opinions about what he should be eating each day….

At the moment I’ve been giving him unlimited access to hay (and water obviously) and 2 portions of pellets every day (the pellets, I give him about 30 grams in the morning, and then 30g in the evening) However, I’m worried that he’s not eating much hay…he seems to pick at it, but doesn’t really eat enough. I bought a big 3kg bag when we first brought Twix home (about 10 days ago) and I feel like he’s hardly gone through any of it.

So some places I’ve read that he should have unlimited pellets, although I’m not sure I agree with this, as I already feel he is getting too much and so this is why he’s not eating much hay?

Any advice please on the amount of pellets he should be eating, also ways to get him to eat more hay!!

Also I want to start introducing fresh veg and herbs, but have read that I should do this until ATLEAST 3 months old?

        Thanks, Jo

A half cup of pellets a day is good, if he’s not eating the hay it could also be that he doesn’t like the brand of hay or the type of hay. Bunnies can be picky and it sometimes takes work to find what they like. If you’re concerned that he’s getting too many pellets, you could reduce it to 1/3 cup pellets a day. I would suggest playing around with hay. A lot of buns like oat and orchard grass. Veggies should start around 3 months old, just to make sure their gut is developing. When you do start with feeding veggies, start with romaine (it’s a typical starter) and feed a small amount for a few days and monitor poops, then switch to another leafy green and repeat the same process every few days. Be careful with cabbage because it can make some bunnies gassy, and parsley can cause some bunnies to pee excessively. Carrots should be given no more than twice a week, and only a small portion because they are high in sugar.
