Alfie was neutered yesterday and he’s been doing great! He sat hunched for awhile yesterday but I hand fed him so veggies and tried to trick him into eating some critical care. He took his pain meds very well though and this morning I saw him eating hay so things are already getting back on track. However, I noticed that a lot of the fur around his eyes/mouth is super crusty. He nurse warned me that they use ointment on his eyes during the surgery to keep them from drying out but there is so much residue from it! I’m assuming the crust around his mouth is from some medicine or something. Is there anyway to get it out of his fur?

Great to hear he’s doing well! From Wick’s experience, I don’t remember too many eye/mouth crusties at all— there could have been, but I deemed it from the critical care he was fed getting all up on his face.

A damp towel followed by a dry, soft towel may help. Is the crusties continuing to develop, or is it just residue now?

Both of my boys were crusty on the mouth and eyes for about a week or two. Water didn’t really help it any. It just kinda wore off on its own.

Same here, I just let it be and it went away after a bit. I think it’s irritating if you try to get it off cause it takes some serious wiping to get it off. I tried but I gave up cause it was just annoying them. so I would just let them groom it off when they do their face washing

I’m glad to say he’s actually done a great job getting it off himself while grooming!! Just a classic worried bunny mom here ?

I think it’s so funny how tidy some bunnies are and how messy others are.

Asriel grooms himself what seems like every 15 minutes ad he keeps his cage so neat and tidy. Bombur grooms himself at least once an hour, and his cage is always covered with hay because he pulls it out of the rack. xD

Alfie is a bit of both!! He will dig out all the hay out of his hay rack and spread it all over his cage, but he grooms himself so meticulously I’m always worried he’ll get wool block.
