        Hi everyone!
My bunny Lola had her spay yesterday. She has barely eaten since so the vet has advised to give her critical care. I have to feed her alone and have been having some trouble as she is very resistant and I’m scared of hurting her incision. I was just wondering if you have any tips on how to do it alone without hurting her and stressing her out too much?
        Thanks for any help!

          Hi and welcome

It helps to first make sure you are breathing slowly and deeply, so you give off a calm presence to your bun.

Some people are able to syringe feed while their bun is on the ground, but I like to place a thick towel on my lap, and sit with them on my lap, with their butt facing towards me, head facing away. I use my left hand to make a “C” grip, where you hold your fingers under their jaw, thumb over the top of the head. Then stick the syringe in on the right side, under their right cheek. You want to aim for the area behind the incisors. Then just squirt a little at a time, allowing her to swallow as you go. Don’t worry if she spits some out at first.

It helps to make the CC the consistency of pancake batter. I find the instructions on the package make it too thick.

Also, adding some canned pumpkin can make it more tasty for some bunnies, and some buns will even eat CC off a plate (mine LOVE it), so try offering it that way too.

This video shows a good technique for syringe feeding (there are some BAD ones on youtube): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8iGZVYVm5Bg

Feel free to ask more questions! You can do it!
