My brother sent me that article with the email title “Don’t end up like this”
lol
This lady is very ill. She is well known around the rabbit rescue community too. It’s very sad for the rabbits and I think it’s sad for her to be this way. I wish they would make her seek counseling as she obviously needs it. I’ve met a woman like this and while it made me mad, it also made me sad for her. I do honestly hope I never have someone close to me end up like this, I’m not sure how I would deal with it.
Oh man, Sarita… you met someone like that?
I’ve mostly heard about people doing this with cats. Actually, I met someone at the vet the other day who had nine cats… but she seemed to be taking good care of them. Actually, she said that they all slept on her at night and she woke up with hair all over her face and in her eyes, lol.
That is so sad. Is she collecting rabbits or allowing them to breed to get that many I wonder. I wish I lived closer to Dallas, I would love to help with the NTRS there and get my fix of ‘more’ without filling my house.
Oh, my. I’m sad for her and wish she could be committed to get some help; letting her run loose and warning her not to own any rabbits obviously isn’t working. I mostly feel sorry for the rabbits. Every time they catch her, she seems to have a quantity of dead rabbits on her hands. Animal “collectors” like this scare the bejesus out of me because they think they’re *helping* when all they’re doing is causing harm.
omgosh that is sad. i admit, i laughed at first, but she is clearly disturbed. keeping dead rabbits? *shudders* poor bunnies.
Oh, my is right. Hopefully, none of us will every get that bad. My friends always joke that I will become the crazy rabbit lady…but I don’t want to be like that woman.
It said that she isn’t allowed to go within 100 feet of a rabbit. Considering how many rabbits there are in the wild ( I have three in my back yard) it seems unlikely that should could really do that. I hope that she gets the help that she needs.

Lovely. She was released Wednesday night, the same day she was arrested, due to jail crowding. The two bits that got me were:
“….Obviously, there is an issue with her hoarding rabbits but she does not pose any danger to the community.” No, but she’s a danger to a boatload of rabbits! And
“….Severe said a mental-health evaluation by staff in his office determined she would not benefit from counseling.” (bolding added) Great. Just great.
So sad
That is so sad to ready any story about animals being hoarded. She is obviously not “mentally OK” and sounds like she needs a supervised living situation. With no strict followup she will obviously start collecting animals again- she is either unwilling or unable to stop.
Poor bunnies. ![]()
How do the authorities not see this woman as any different than that sick kid who was killing cats in Florida?
*shudder*
You can definitely see where the devil is at work in this world. How sad.
LizzieKnittyBun, chances are that if someone is at a vets then they have at least some sense of animal care. Plus 9 is not a lot when it comes to cats. We have 9 and most of the time it’s not even noticeable. They are indoor/outdoor cats though, and all rescues with a few from feral lines. Our most recent is the 23 year old neighborhood cat that showed up half dead on our doorstep last November. As long as they are all spayed and neutered (which ours are as well as countless others we’ve done for other people), and they are getting good care then I don’t think it’s a hoarding case. Or maybe we are. Haha. Though we certainly don’t have bodies of animals lying around, nor do we go out intentionally finding more/breeding. That’s part of my problem with zoning laws limiting the number of a certain animal you can have; it doesn’t stop this sort of behavior at all and makes it harder for those who do rescue.
Yeah, I think that’s definitely the main difference between people who just love having lots of animals around and hoarders. You and the girl I met at the vet’s office take care of your animals! That woman in the article does not…
Congrats on your big fam : )
Wow, I’ve made jokes about ending up an old widowed crazy bunny lady one day. I thought having 3 or 4 would qualify me for that, especially since I already take Freya outside a bit and would probably do so with multiple bunnies. I even picked a great condo I want that’s close to everything in the middle of town, including our vet lol. This lady is sick, and if she can’t be helped then she needs to be locked up. If the jails are too crowded she should be commited to a mental institution because she obviously isn’t metally capable of living in society.
Sorry for the delayed response… been a bit distracted lately.
Just wanted to add…. I’d rather grow old to become a crazy bunny lady than a crazy cat lady. Cat ladies have such a stereotype… and bunnies are so fluffy and cute that everyone would have to think I was just a sweet old coot. Not an antisocial one.
haha! good point ; )
