So I brought home little Penny today. She’s young- 8 weeks old. When Max got out of his cage, they ignored each other at first, but then he started front-humping her. I pushed him off so he didn’t get bit and Penny was totally flat on the ground, ears back. But then she would run away and he would chase her to front-hump her, but when he didn’t follow, she would stop running and eat hay. There was no fighting, but lots of front humping.

I know not to let him front-hump for his safety, but other than that does this sound good?

Humping will happen. I have seen people in the HRS actually turn the boy around to hump correctly. I would probably wouldn’t worry about anything right now. Until Penny gets altered, most bonding work right now will go out the window when she is all healed up and back into things.

Females can be spayed at about 6 months, so you still have lots of time before the real bonding begins.
