Baylor is a 4 mon old non neutered Netherland dwarf. He lives in my room, and I thought it would be nice not to see his poop all the time, so I decided to try a covered litter box. We started with the lid off so that it was not the biggest change, and he used it fine. Then I put the lid on, and he used it fine until he figured out that he could jump on top of it. A few days ago I saw him going poop on it and now he has peed on it. I took off the lid to have it washed and he seems to be using it fine again. How should I introduce the top again? How do I get him to not use the bathroom on it?

He definitely seems to know that’s the bathroom spot and the lid probably has him confused… off the top of my head, the easiest thing I can think of is to slide the litter box under a taller piece of furniture so that it’s not in the open but too high for the bun to be wanting to jump on top

Honestly I’d probably just leave the lid off… pick your battles, so they say!

You could try stacking something on top of it? I also use a covered litter box and although my rabbits haven’t tried to jump on top of it (yet), I keep a basket on top of it that I store stuff in. I feel like it’s just tall enough that it deters them from trying to jump up there.

I removed the lid and Baylor is doing fine again. Most likely I’ll just leave it off.
