Well, I did learn not to put the ball on the couch- because it rolled over by me and Cotton was convinced there was a Craisin under me and I got quite a nip on my thigh. She is serious about her treat consumption and she was taking no chances that there was a piece under my leg.
To be honest- the day before- I closed the dogs in the bedroom- set the ball out- even with 2 pieces of dried fruit leading up to it- and I brought Schroeder up. He was so convinced there was something shady going on he would not go near the ball. The dogs were MIA and I had a camera- he avoided the ball completely. By the time I brought Cotton upstairs later it was too dark to get a video.
So the next night I decided Cotton would be the video star and set it up for her- ball in middle of room- little fruit trail to it. I didn’t close the dogs up since I didn’t want Cotton to be suspicious about their absence. I use dried fruit in the ball- mainly Craisins, blueberries and cherries. I cut the bigger pieces with kitchen shears so they are more uniform and will dispense- plus the bunnies think they are getting more that way. I don’t use raisins because they can be toxic to dogs.
Our dogs are that good with the bunnies- they frequently check for poos- since they love to eat those. But they know that is the bunnies ball- and that is why Skye looked up at me with the look that she did after she layed at my feet. That was the “I know it is not mine, but could you reconsider?” An hour or 2 later I caught Skye with the ball after Cotton lost interest- she had her paw on the ball and was rolling it just right to dispense the few remaining pieces.
