Did anyone watch Confessions of animal hoarding last night on animal planet. A lady on there had 130 rabbits and alot of them were so sick. The conditions were horrible for this rabbits. I can’t believe anyone would house so many rabbits that she can’t take care of them. I feel so bad for these rabbits.
I don’t watch it, but I don’t think it’s unusual for people to hoard any kind of animal…they obviously have a huge problem.
I watch the regular Hoarders on A&E and Hoarding Buried Alive on TLC. I have a weird fascination watching these shows (don’t really like when they show the animals hoarders though, that is upsetting even if I know they have an illness)…I’ve helped with a rabbit hoarder before at a rescue I was with and she couldn’t see that she was harming the rabbits, she said she loved each and every one of them. She had issues.
I can’t watch the animal hoarders, it makes me too emotional!![]()

But I do watch the two other regular hoarding shows. I tend to put those on the TV when I know I should be cleaning! For some reason it just always puts me in the mood to clean, clean, clean!!![]()
Can’t watch it, it makes me mad that anyone could have so many animals and abuse them and still think they are doing the right thing… mental illness, ok, but they should just take the animals away, rehome them, get the person treatment and not turn the illness and the animals suffering into entertainment for the masses. :s
I watch Hoarders, it makes me see some of the unhealthy parts of my family, background, and possible future issues. I have family who before the show, we just called “eccentric”. Now, we realize that it is much deeper, and some people who needed it got some help. So maybe it isn’t all for entertainment, it is sadly just packaged that way. I hope some others out there get help too because of it.![]()
I understand your point of view Stickerbunny, and not to turn this into a debate or anything, but you make such a valid argument. This is animal abuse (in some cases borderline, but still), and they’d never turn child abuse/child protective services into a reality show, so why should this be any different? (At least I HOPE they’d never turn child abuse into a reality show, but with the state of television nowadays, who knows?!)
I do watch the animal hoarding shows sometimes and it makes me very sad, but I know this is a very real problem. At least in some of the shows, the people are sincerely trying their best, but there are just too many.
I think the point of the shows is to show that this type of abuse exists and make people aware of it. I do know on the show Hoarders that they do bring in animal rescues and officials when animals are involved. They also at times bring in Child Protective & Adult Protective services if needed.
I am glad that there is awareness is around. It is such a sad thing
I cannot watch the show. I’ve heard of the episode about rabbits. I’ve seen a little of one show but I cannot watch it, especially when it has animals involved ![]()

TODDLERS AND TIARAS. Enough said. Lol
I agree, Sarita. It’s really brought the issue of animal abuse and neglect to light. I think many people still think that as long ad you aren’t actually beating on an animal, it isn’t abuse. But when we are bringing this issue up on tv shows, people can actually SEE the devastating affects of neglect. I believe it’s so important to show people what happens… It brings about action. It’s peta’s tactic and one that works. They famously said, “did your food have a face?”. It got people talking.
Tate, that is what I posted on Chacha’s facebook. Chacha and I watched TLC’s ” I didn’t know I was pregnant ” last night (random, waiting until Royal Pains turned on USA network) and I saw a commercial for Toddlers and Tiaras. One of the little girls was wearing a padded bra… ><
Well, while I agree that Toddlers and Tiaras is a very strange show and they put those kids ridiculous things to serve their own interests, that’s not quite what I meant by “child abuse”. I meant actual child abuse: neglect, intentional or non-intentional physical harm, inadequate food/shelter/education… Toddlers and Tiaras is more like a dog show with spoiled pooches.
They do have a show on child abuse – it’s called the Nightly News…can’t get any more real than that…
As for Toddlers and Tiara’s – I’ve watched a few episodes of this out of curiosity and it’s bizarre for sure but seems like they keep renewing it…not sure what people’s attraction is to this show :~)
Toddlers and Tiaras, never seen it but I feel bad for any little girl who is a beauty queen. I was backstage at a beauty competition for girls ranging from about 5 to 8 one time and the mothers were being so MEAN to those girls! My mother got told to put me into those things when I was about four and she flat out refused, she said if I wanted to get into modeling I could do it when I was older. I never wanted to, though I did get a few offers, being judged solely on appearance never appealed to me. I will never understand that world or its attraction.
And yeah it does bring awareness I suppose, but it just irks me to turn any creatures suffering into a money making entertainment show. Also, you have to wonder how long they wait to bring the authorities into a situation so they are sure to get that good footage for the shows. But I suppose if it helps people and animals I can’t knock it too much – even if I don’t agree with the methods.
This kind of thing makes me so happy to not have TV!!
I think the shows can be educational- I think they are factual. And really MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL- for both the animal hoarder and other hoarder shows- THEY CAN GET HELP. Face it- no one else drives around with a licensed psychologist, organizer and clean up crew to help these people. There would be no funds for it. So the show by producing revenue can actually provide help for these people. Not even addressing the therapy and organization costs- CAN YOU EVEN IMAGINE HOW MUCH IT WOULD COST to hire that many people and haul away that much trash- and then to actually get right down in and clean and sanitize what they can. It would be so expensive that the hoarders (most usually already in debt and facing losing their homes or children) could not possibly afford it. So yes- exposing it to the masses does “sensationalize” and it a small way exploit these peoples lives- but without the show- really, what are their other options???
So I actually think the show can help the general public see this as an illness- and it actually helps the hoarders though it is often a painful process for them but necessary.
I have the episode TIVO’s but have not watched it yet.
I don’t watch the hoarder shows, but I happened to be flipping channels and saw the room full of bunnies, so went back to see what it was. So I partly watched that show about the woman who hoarded those bunnies in her trailer and camper. It was really, really sad. I actually couldn’t stand the other hoarder and kept flipping channels again, so I didn’t see how the bunny lady ended. Did they get them removed and did she get a home or help?
While there are a couple of reality shows I watch (Sarita and I are die hard Project Runway fans) I really miss fictional television. There’s a reason men and women study to become actors & actresses. And writers are talented and know how to entertain with actual story lines, plots, etc. I miss actors! The general public is fascinated by themselves, but not necessarily fascinating. And since the producers make contrived situations, Reality is almost a misnomer. Of course, they are now rerunning old TV shows I watched as a kid on a couple of stations. Now that I see them again, there were much worse than I remembered. Did I say talented writers? Hmmmmm…….
I know everyone’s minds automatically go to the poor animals and how sad it is that they are being neglected. But you have to feel sorry for the people as well. This is a disorder and these people need help. You really feel for them when their animals are being taken away because they really do care. Most of these people don’t intend to abuse or neglect their animals, they just become overwhelmed by the numbers and it gets way out of control.
No the bunny woman flipped out and left the taping, refusing any help for her or her rabbits. Pathetic.
I watch those types of shows sometimes. My husband absolutely hates it, but I am interested in the psychology aspect of it. And most of the time they do get help for person and animals. Granted most of the animal help is coming from HSUS, so 75% + of them are probably euthanized anyways, so I guess it does kind of suck.
What I love on the hoarding shows is that a great majority of the people are white trash, complaining about how they can’t afford care (or sterilization) for their pets as they puff away on their cigarettes. My husband and I are both huuuuuge on the anti-smoking campaign. Same goes for Animal Cops. Dog gets hit by car and is not taken to a vet. The owner who is smoking and talking on an android phone says they can’t afford the vet care. Losers.
