I know collards are safe for bunnies…but how good are they for them?  Is it something that should be restricted or is that a good veggie for daily consumption?  They are so cheap and so readily available down here in NC so it’d be great if that could be one of his main veggies.

I go by if it’s leafy and green, it’s fine to feed all the time; if it’s starchy and sugary (like fruit, carrots, apples) then it’s a treat item. That’s what I think anyways

I wasn’t sure since spinach is leafy and green but that shouldn’t be fed all the time.

I’d ideally like to give him romaine lettuce, collards, and spring mix daily. Those stay fresh best for me since I only do shopping once every week.

Collards are NOT high in oxalates, the way spinach & Kale is – therefore, it is a okay for daily.

Plus, it does seem to last a long time!

Yeah I only give Kale to Floppy once in awhile, even though I read somewhere that as long
as your bun is healthy it’s ok to feed regularly. I should get collard greens for Floppy to try. His
main veg. is dandelion— he loves it.

I just moved to NYC and am still figuring out the best places to get my bunnies’ vegs in my new neighborhood. Back in DC they got collards regularly; they are definitely economical. They did make my room smell slightly funky as they were eating them though!!

LOL that’s what my MIL said when I bought the first batch of them…she was like “EWWW they’re going to make your house stink!!!” but I don’t notice any smell *shrugs* maybe it’s because I have seasonal allergies so my nose is never really fully clear this time of year.
