… for the first time in two years!!! I’m so darn proud of myself and DH. We trimmed Otto’s a couple times when he was a baby, but started taking him to the vet once he got big and squirmy.
Yesterday we needed to check Otto’s bum because we thought he had some poop stuck there. By the time I was holding him over the kitchen counter we figured we should just try clipping his nails and he was fine! He’s such a good boy about being held now (though he obviously still hates it and we get lots of foot flicks and grouchy looks).
Then we figured we had to try Hannah. We’ve never successfully picked her up for longer than a couple seconds, so we tried putting her in the carrier and then letting her out on the kitchen counter. She tried to run away at first (not sure where she thought she was going) and I tried to pick her up to keep her from jumping off of the counter (I know she would do it too), but it didn’t go well. So I just put her down on the towel and wrapped her up a bit while DH held her still. She’s funny – even at the vet she’s horrible about being held, but if all four of her feet are on a hard surface she doesn’t much care what you do. Otto’s the opposite and if his feet are touching anything he’s going to kick and squirm, but if you pick him up and don’t give him anything to kick against he just sits here.
I’m so proud of us for just doing it! It saved us $30 at the vet’s office and having to rush out there after work.
