Clean and cost effective litter solution

Hey guys, I’ve been a long time lurker but this is my first post here on BB . I’ve seen quite a lot of posts about messy hay organization and litter choices so I just thought I’d share my 2 cents on how I deal with it.

First off I’m a poverty college student so I needed to make sure everything I get is of optimized cost effectiveness, minimizing wasted hay and litter.

My litter cost sums up to about:

– 40lb hardwood stove pellets as litter (can last me half a year, I fill it in litter tray with a thin layer and replace every 2 to 3 days): $6
– 4L white vinegar used for wiping the litter pan (last about 4 months): $3
– 2kg baking soda, scattered on top of the wood pellets (last about half a year): $5
On average about $2.50 a month. Affordable even for a broke college student like me . Plus Nina shares my study room, and this ensures virtually no smell coming from the wood pellets soaked with urine and baking soda.

I use the triangular scaterless litter pans with a wire mesh to keep the pee and poo out of Nina’s reach, and also to get rid of the “yellow feet” symptom.

The triangular pan is set in the corner of a larger rectangular cat litter box, and locked in place on the NIC cage so my bun can’t shove it around. In the leftover space of the cat litter box, I put in a fresh batch of hay everyday and Nina would just sit on the triangular pan while scooping down to nom on some hay, doing her business while eating. 

The water bottle is also positioned over the litter box so it drips inside the pan and for easy access.

With my setup I almost never get messy hay lying around outside the cat litter box, and everything is kept clean and separated, easy to clean ! 

How do you guys setup your litter box/hay feeder ?

ooooo I think I’ll give this a try where did you but the triangle box+mesh? Or what is it called so I can look up the brand.
