Classroom heat/thoughts on class message?

Hi All,

 I work in a very old building and AL spends time in both my classroom and home. Thankfully our heat has been turned on since we have had early cold temps here in IL (Yay no more freezing in our classroom). Unfortunately, that means AL can’t spend as much time in the class due to inconsistencies with the old system.  Here is the message I am crafting for parents/students. What are your thoughts?

As winter is (quickly it seems) descending upon us, the heat has finally been turned on.  Unfortunately, as with any old building, our heat is extremely inconsistent.  Since Rabbits cannot sweat or pant, they do not have any way of releasing heat from their furry little bodies.  As a result, it is extremely dangerous for AL to be in temps above 75 degrees.  My fear is that the heat may (as experienced several times in the past) cause a problem while I am not here over night. I have come back in a few mornings only to have had all my wax clips melt off the walls! LOL.  Since I commute an hour each way, it is simply too much stress for him to be carted back and forth.  What I will try to do is bring him one a day a week for now until the spring (We have a vet visit tomorrow so I will clear this with her before I make any final decisions). I know this is less than ideal but I must keep his safety in mind as rabbits can pass from heat stroke in a very short amount of time.  I know many of you donate items for AL and I am eternally grateful. However, please don’t feel like you need to do this, especially since he will be spending more time at my house than in the classroom for the next few months.  I appreciate your understanding. What a learning process caring for a rabbit has been for all of us!  If you would like to learn more or your child would like to do some additional research, rabbit.org is a fabulous site and we even have our own chapter of the House Rabbit Society right here in Chicago!

I think it sounds great Kbana! I’m sure your students will be sad to not see him as much but I think the compromise of 1 day a week is good. As long as it doesn’t stress AL out to much

Thanks Mollys! I will see what the vet says. AL seems to have adjusted to the drive well so far but he normally doesn’t do the drive twice in one day so we’ll see. The last thing I want is for him to be too stressed or terrified of the car since I would like to keep bringing him in when I can. I get more flops and binkies when he is i the classroom so I can tell he feels at home there too. I appreciate your feedback!
