Chronic eye boogers

My younger sister got her rabbit Daisy just about six months ago in June. She’s still not yet a year old and she’s a very sweet mini lop with a lot of energy. However, since we brought Daisy home she has had constant eye boogers that my sister gently removes sometimes twice a day. When we first got her, she seemed to have a slight cold because her nose was a little runny and I assumed that was the cause of the discharge, but now that it’s been months and though her runny nose had cleared up ages ago, the discharge continues.

Emotionally, she’s very playful and friendly and loves to give kisses to just about anyone willing to pet or hold her. She gets plenty of exercise and binkies constantly so I think she’s overall very happy, but the persistence of the eye boogers issue concerns me.

She has never had her eyes sealed with the discharge, it just stays in the inner corner. It was more severe when we first brought her home, and I remember seeing some potential hair loss in the area it collected in, but since then her condition has improved a bit and her hair is back to normal. Regardless of improvement, the longevity of this issue made me join the forum to seek help because my rabbit (two year old netherland dwarf) has never had this problem.

Do these things continue to improve over time? Or should we seek some outside help?

I don’t know how it is with buns, but in young dogs it’s very very common with eye-boogers. I used tear replacement drops with my dog when she was a pup. Saline eyewash for human is another alternative.
It sounds like she’s a happy and healthy bun and if there’s no redness or other signs of inflammation/infection it could be sth she’ll grow out of.
