So my rabbit is really young and I’m wondering if she’ll grow out of this but sometimes randomly she gets the urge to intensely dig then chew at the carpet until she bites some off and she might have even eaten some. I am hoping its not a cause for alarm if she’s still pooping regularly and she’s only ingested a tiny bit but does anyone have any advice or input on this? She’s 6 weeks and she’s actually already pretty free-roam because she’s so well behaved and litter trained already so I’m wondering if she’ll stop at some point or if I’m doomed forever haha I get so nervous. She’s even gone to the corner of the room and pulled up some of those long plastic fibers attached to the carpet. I don’t know if she’s eaten any.

Ah yes, I have the same issue. The first priority is to either block off that area or remove the carpet if it’s a rug. Mine has done the same thing to one of the rooms. You’ll just have to close that door. Keep her away from carpet. If she ingests too much it can cause GI Stasis. The cause of this is either hormones (she’ll have to be spayed at six months to stop those) and because rabbits just have the instinct to chew and gnaw and can’t do anything about it. Most rabbits like resistant things that don’t move or roll away easily while they chew it. I attached a chew stick to the cage bars so that Rain could chew it without it moving around. I also will hold a chew toy like a hay carrot in my hand tightly and she’ll come up and chew it.

Ah, good idea. I’m wondering if there is some safe edible grass thing I can buy for her to chew at or something.. a chia pet or something? o.o

Yes there is! The company Oxbow has these hay mats that tons of bun love to destruct. You could put one in her cage and it’ll last a while. You can find these on Amazon or local pet stores.

Thanks I’ll look into it. She actually doesn’t have a cage at all haha so yeah

It’s strange, she really is super behaved most days then a random odd day she will have urges to chew up the carpet in a corner somewhere but it’s not too bad I just worry she ingests something
