The chewing has begun already.  Tank is eating the baseboards!  How do you guys discourage this?

We had a “yay’ moment when Tank was playing, then ran across the room, pooped in the litter box, and then went back to playing.  He’s so smart!

my walls are lined with nic grids (but of course this was from before Target changed their stupid grids.) i have a row of them that just encase the living room. in the rest of the house it was just pretty much constant supervision until Mead was spayed and got older. they’ll still take a chomp every once in awhile. i’ve had no luck with spraying perfume unless it was on fabric… clapping is usually ignored, you could try a squirt bottle.

Put something over where he chews the baseboards, like a grass mat.

I read somewhere that if you want to discourage a rabbit from a certain area put a few small dabs of perfume to repel them. I’ve never tried this and am not sure if I would reccommend this but just thought I’d mention. Anyone hear about this?

i’ve never had luck with perfume on walls or wood, only fabric, and only for a short time.

I also haven’t had luck with perfume. However, the spray bottle worked quite well, as well as saying NO! and moving him from the spot. I found mine was most chewy when he was 1-2 yrs old. He now completely ignores the baseboards.

Also, make sure your bunny has lots of other things to chew on. Offer him bark and branches (from nonpoisonous trees), toys, etc. And try the bait and switch method. When he’s chewing on the baseboard, say no, push him away from it and then offer him the appropriate toy. And gives lots of praise if he chews on it. Rabbits are very clever, so he’ll figure it out if he’s motivated to.

                    Squirt him?!? Egads!

He’s so tiny! One squirt could send him flying across the room!

Seriously though, I think I’m just going to block off access to the base boards for now. I’ll squirt the little boogers when they get a little bigger.

that’s right, they’re itty bitty. i always forget that. once they get bigger (and hardy) it won’t be a problem.
