Hey everyone! I’ve had Charcoal since March 2011 when he was a 6 month old baby (more like teenager lol) and I love him to bits. We understand each other so well and I feel like he can trust me now. I love giving him neck rubs and behind his ears and he has never once indicated wanting it to stop. There’s other parts such as under his chin or belly where he still jumps and like lots of rabbits he doesn’t like being picked up or taken to the vet, which is understandable but I hope over time it will be fine
Dunno about anyone else’s rabbit, but mine likes to binky around the cage at the same time every morning, which is usually just before I get up for work! It was frustrating at first but I’m not going to stop him doing it because he’s obviously happy, and he’s full of energy in the morning anyways. Usually I give him a handful of pellets and then I get an hour of peace and quiet before I wake up again. He goes crazy for pellets but I try to not overfeed him if I can. It’s a sure easy way to get him running back inside the cage before I need to close it for work or cleaning the room.
He’s in my bedroom, and I only have the cage closed when I’m at work. Otherwise, as soon as I get home, I open it and let him have full roam overnight until I am ready to leave for work the next morning. If my brother or sister are off work or uni, then they let him out and look after him. All my friends say I spoil him too much . I love that he binkies because it means he’s happy with me but I do wonder why he chooses to do it in the cage rather than outside it where there’s more room Maybe it’s because it makes more noise inside and he knows it will wake me up. He may as well just become my alarm clock
It took me a few months but the wait has been worth it. He’s so tidy when it comes to pooping, which he does in corner of the cage, so it’s very easy to clean out every 2-3 days. I’ve got all cables and fragile items covered with cable wrap or blocked off now, and he no longer jumps on my bed when I’m away from the room so I don’t have to worry about him peeing on there (last time was way over a year ago). He loves chewing my wallpaper which I tried to stop him from doing at first, but then I thought if it keeps him happy, then wallpaper can always be replaced
Lastly, before I go sleep, I move my computer chair away from my desk and turn it towards my bed. It was to stop him from using it to hop onto my desk to chew stuff, but now it’s his favourite sleeping place, and I can keep an eye on him (as well as him on me), unless it’s warm in which case he lies on the floor where it’s cooler with laminated flooring.
I could talk about Charcoal all day. I hope I haven’t bored you guys
I’ve attached some pics.
When I first got him. Oldest pic I could find. Looked so cute!
Eats more greens than I do!
I spoil him a bit too much I think
