Change in peeing…

…we were giving our rabbit pellets, lettuce and had hay always available.  He never really ate the hay and the more I read that seemed strange so I have been not giving him pellets anymore every day and instead lots of lettue and he eats hay like crazy.  Since this change though he goes through a full bottle of water each day, where in the past he drank maybe a 1/3 of a bottle.  Any thoughts if this is usual?

Do you mean a change in drinking or peeing? As for the drinking a change in diet could cause a change in thirst.

Actually its both, he’s drinking tons and peeing tons (which go together) but it’s such a big change I was concerned.  I suppose the hay makes him much more thirsty than the pellets.

I actually mean both – he’s drinking tons and peeing tons.  I suspect this makes sense if the hay makes him more thirsty.  I think eating more hay and lettuce is better – he would eat a bowl of pellets very quickly.

My bunnies drink and pee more when they eat more hay. I guess it also depends on how dry the hay is, how wet the veggies are, what the temperature is like, how active the bunny is, etc.
