When I first got Bombur 3 months ago, he was already on the chubbier side of things. His mom was generous with her milk when he was a boy, so he was very well developed at 7.5 weeks. When we brought took the boys in for their 2 week post-op check the vet told us that Asriel was a false dwarf (wasn’t surprised) and Bombur was a true dwarf. I’m curious though because I know true dwarves usually range between 2-4 pounds, and at 18 weeks old Bombur is sitting at 3.9 (maybe more now because it’s been 2 weeks since his weigh in). He’s a Holland Lop, not a Mini, but every time the vet tells that both buns will end up being about 5-7 pounds I scratch my head.

Currently, Bombur is getting unlimited timothy and oat hay, 1/2 cup of pellets, 1.5 cups of greens, and a carrot or fruit 2 times a week. He’s always been a pretty good eater. He seems like he’s on the big side for a true dwarf, especially at 18 weeks, but at the same time you can feel his spine if you rub his back. The vet said he was in perfect health though. I guess I’m just a little confused at what seems to be conflicting info.

        I’ve attached a recent photo.

Based off your Instagram posts, Bombur seems healthy. If anything, I think his weight is just distributed more to his lower body and legs, rather than all throughout. The equivalent of a human beer belly perhaps, haha?

If you’re concerned, taking alone time to have him run around more couldn’t hurt!

Hahaha Wick, my husband and I always tell him he has a beer belly. We frequently call him chubby bum. He is definitely more bottom heavy, whereas Asriel is very lean and spread out. Bombur is a little teapot short and stout for sure.
Just wanted to check cause I feel like I have such conflicting info

              I don’t see the picture

Maybe just decreasing the pellets would help him to trim out some if you are concerned. I have a mini lop and he’s a little thicker toward the bum. He’s about 16 weeks so he’s still pretty tiny. I’m being very cautious to watch both my buns and try to keep them on the “trim” side, for their own good

I think so long as you can feel his bones with what feels like a layer of padding over the top, he is okay. You could always ask a vet/vet nurse to do a body exam and weigh in. They’re usually free of charge His diet sounds excellent!
