I give him veggies every day around lunchtime. This past week for his lunch he had one leaf of green leaf, red leaf, romaine, and kale, 2 leaves of spinach, a little piece of carrot top and about a quarter size piece of celery because it was something new. He eats a lot of hay still and has healthy poos. I’m just wondering if it I am feeding him too many veggies.

You can give too much veggies, in the capacity that it becomes something the rabbit eats instead of eating hay, and in that too much calcium is consumed due to calcium-rich vegetables, like kale.

That amount seems fine to me.

1 cup per 2 pounds body weight per day is usually considered adequate for greens.

That doesn’t sound like a huge amount tbh, I think you could increase So long as the veggies aren’t causing mushy poops or impacting their hay consumption, it’s all good.

Im worried about the same exact thing but I have anxiety and i don’t even give half of that. I give my bunny one leaf of green leaf lettuce a day. He’s four months. But I just started giving him veggies. His poop is darker. Is that normal?

Darker poo is typically more wet, which could be a sign of a lot of hydration due to a lot of wet veggies. If the poop is normal size and spherical shaped, it’s a negligible characteristic in my opinion. As long as your rabbit is still eating a lot of hay Rain, you should be fine. Remember slow introductions to any veggies. You can feed more really. If you imagine a fresh romaine product with the large leaves, Wick gets two in the morning and 1 at night. The leaves on the outside of romaine are quite big, so they usually take up a small bowl, which is perfect for him.

Veggies are just a treat really since they get majority of nutrients from pellets.

I’ve been noting that Panda and Fernando, while enthusiastically eating their hay and pellets like always, have slowed down a bit on their evening salad. The two – Fernando especially – often disregard the freshly filled bowl at first in favor of the hay, which has also just been replenished, and then often leave some left-over leaves in the bowl when I go in in the morning to give them their breakfast pellets. They do their heartiest hay-eating in the early mornings and evenings, then forage throughout the other daytime and nighttime hours for tasty bits and pieces as the mood takes them.

Wow joea64 my little guy is just the exact opposite!
Rain is kind of eating mostly pellets and that one leaf and leaves hay as his last resort so I’m going to change that. I’m gonna make sure he eats more hay. He’s a picky one. Rejected everything but Timothy and still slightly turns his nose up on it. That’s what I don’t like about pet stores. They raise their bunnies eating pellets and the bad kind too. The ones with seeds and colored thingies and a bunch of junk. His poop may be dark due to the fact he is still slightly recovering from his pet store visit two days ago. I think it’s a good idea if I cut back on pellets. I give almost a fourth in a day.

Rain. Have you seen the bunny diet pyramid? Someone who is clever will be able to post it here for you.
It shows what percentage of a bunny’s diet should be hay / pellets / veggies…..

Yes, I have something like that on the back of my bag of Oxbow pellets. I try to follow it as much as possible. I think I’m just going to give less treats. I usually give a smidge of oats or a dried strawberry, or maybe a little bit of pellets in exchange for him going back in his cage. Thanks for the help guys!
