I was just at the vet today, Oliver got a check up and got neutered. He’s doing good so far! But I forgot to ask them If you can feel a rabbits liver. For as long as I’ve had Oliver (only 3 months) when i gave him a tummy massage I could always feel something slightly firm on this left side just below his ribs. I looked at some rabbit anatomy pictures online and that seems to be where their liver is located I just wasn’t sure if you should actually feel it. I know rabbits have fairly large livers and I have a Holland lop so he’s tiny so maybe thats why I can feel it because it has no where to go. Im assuming its normal since he did get a check up today and the doctor said nothing about it.

I haven’t heard about feeling a bun’s liver, but sometimes the stomach can be felt when it’s full.

I too think the vet would’ve said something if there was an abnormality.

If the rabbit is smaller in size then the organs should be in ratio to that respective size. If he doesn’t seem to be displaying any discomfort, perhaps you could point it out to the vet during your next visit and see what they say.

I responded to this thread earlier but my reply was lost due to the forum glitch.  I know another member had also, suggesting it could be the kidneys you’ve detected as the left and right are in different positions. One is further up the abdomen then the other.

According to textbook of rabbit medicine, you shouldn’t normally be able to feel the liver.
