        Hello everyone.
This is my first time posting.
        I need advice.

I have 2 desexed rabbits. Male and Female.
Recently I found a rabbit near a school.
I have been trying to look for it’s owner but to no avail no one has come forward.
The local rescue is full and cannot take it in.

I would love to keep the rabbit for myself but I am only a student and 2 rabbits alone has cost me plenty. Imagine 3!
But I was wondering if 2 desexed rabbits and 1 undesexed rabbit can live in harmony?
I do not want the rabbit to go to the pound and get euthanised so I’m trying to think of ways I can keep it.
Desexing costs a lot. But I want to eventually get the rabbit desexed once I get a job.
I am fine with food and vaccinations. But desexing really is the most expensive for me.
Is this situation possible? Please help!

P.s. I know that the “scent” of a rabbit changes once desexed.
I am fine with rebonding them if it leads to that.
Unfortunately I haven’t sexed the rabbit because he is still scared.
Any advice is splendid!! Thank you.

No, rabbits should not live with others until they have been desexed and properly bonded. Hormones can make them act nuts and cause them to fight, and rabbits can fight to the death of not stopped.

I know you want to help this bun, but if you don’t have the ability to keep him separate then no, you should not keep him. He could get hurt or seriously hurt your other two bunnies. Then you’re looking at more vet visits to stitch up ears/lips that were bitten open. And if the rabbit is male and tries to mount one of the other rabbits faces, they could bite his gentials off. It has happened before to a member here.

Sorry for the somber tone, but it’s very important that you don’t keep them together.

It’s so wonderful of you to help this rabbit. Unfortunately I agree with BN, they cannot be kept together if it is unfixed

If the shelter is too full to take them, is there any chance they could help you with the spay/neuter costs? They often can get discounts from local vets.

              Thank you for the advice!
I was able to get a bit of help with the costs of desexing!
But unfortunately I can’t do it until next week.
I would like to know, is it possible for them to be in the same room but separated before desexing?
For now they haven’t seen each other but they have smelt each other from me.
Or is it better to have them in separate rooms completely until desexed
(my problem is the new kids in the carpet and keeps on moving the tarp underneath
and then pees on the carpet)
The only place that I can put him next is where my rabbits rest because it has a bit more space

Unfortunately I live in A small town in Australia.
And the council are more focused into discounted desexing for cats and dogs only.
But it’s okay now because I was able to borrow some money to get him desexed!

It’s fine for them to be in the same room Just make sure they can have no physical contact.

Yes I agree, in the same room is fine as long as they are kept apart. If you’re using a playpen to separate them you’ll need to be sure that they can’t bite each other through the bars either, which is a common occurance with unbonded buns. So distance between pens (min 10cm), or a solid covering on the bars will prevent that

Just keep an eye on your bonded pair. New rabbits, especially hormonal ones, can upset bonds. I temporarily had an unneutered male in my home, and once my female realized he was in the house she started chasing everyone and thumping constantly!
