So we got a new bunny on Sunday and I have his cage in a certain spot in the family room, right by the garage entrance into the house. Now I want to move it to the other side because I think it’ll be better to not have him being disturbed in his cage whenever someone enters the house. I’m worried it’s too late to move the cage now. He had a skittish first couple of days. Yesterday was a good day and he’s been binkying all morning today! Can I move his cage to the other side of the room?

i think it would be ok, just keep everything in his cage the same. Take him out to play on the floor or something then just move the cage. when you put him back in he probably won’t even notice he has been moved. Maybe give him his food, so he is more focused on that then the moved cage.

Ok good, I think I may move it. I would definitely keep his set up the same. It’s funny to see how bunnies have preferences. We had his ceramic food bowl in the corner of his cage and we would find it constantly moved to the middle, so I moved it against the middle of the back wall. And he hasn’t touched it since! I’m assuming he wanted his corners free? It was bugging my daughter because she wanted the bowl in the corner because it “looks better” and I told her to leave it, thumper will just redecorate again!

Hi Koukla, its not a problem to move the cage. He’ll get used to it. He is still in the family room, yes?

Its just that they like feeling part of the family and it will probably make him less skittish once he gets used to the coming and goings, rather than putting him somewhere very very quiet all day.

Its lovely that he is binkying already. Your challenge is now to get an ‘in-flight’ photo to show us!! LOL

Oh ok, this is all great info! yes he would still be in the family room but on the opposite side but that side is quieter and calmer since we don’t go in and out through that door. I guess I will have to think about it and decide. My daughter has been trying to catch him binkying on video but hasn’t succeeded yet! Lol! also the pet shop told me that he is eight months old. I’ve been very lucky cause he hasn’t sprayed or peed anywhere yet , except for in his cage. Do you think he definitely will spray? I’m thinking about getting him neutered. He also isn’t a nipper which is great.

Well some boys do spray and some don’t. Some members say their boys are calmer afterwards, some don’t. Certainly if there is the poss of him being bonded at a later stage he would have to be….

It’s great he’s not a nipper! Most aren’t really. It is always good to teach kids and adults to approach their hand from the side of the rabbit’s face (not directly in front like you would do a cat) as they have a blind spot in front and that is why sometimes rabbit ‘rush’ towards the hand or get spooked by the sudden smell in front of their nose. So always approach slowly from side and he wont get a surprise !

They always like to binky just after you’ve stopped watching!!
