I gave my bunnies some plain newsprint to play with (the kind that comes in the binkybunny packages hehe) and they (especially Luna) seems to like EATING it as well.  Is it okay for them to eat  paper? I read you can give them phonebooks, but I don’t want her to eat the phonebook! I give her paper towel/toilet paper tubes sometimes too. They get plenty to eat so its not like they’re starving. Why does bunny like chowing on paper so much?

Yes paper is ok as long as it has no glue or toxic print on them.

Paper is a high fiber item, which buns love. In addition, paper tends to ‘get in their way’ and a bun’s natural reaction to something in their way is to chew it up until it’s not. It also is something new to their diet and they love variety.

My boyfriend gets things delivered from this one company that sends great bunny paper. It’s brown, like cardboard, corrugated and all crimped indifferent directions. It’s super noisy and very textured…They LOVE it!

If your rabbit eats more paper and does not eat its usual amount of hay or a lot of paper, then it is best to limit the consumption of it. I know it can be hard because they get such great joy from it but it really it best. : )

i typically leave a couple of cardboard boxes laying around areas my bunnies frequent.  it keeps them from chewing on the furniture and moulding, for the most part.

If you find your bun going for the paper BEFORE food and hay there is perhaps a problem, but if you bun just likes to chew on it for fun, its OK. I put all kinds of cardboard boxes, paper, and cardboard tubes in my bunnies cages to help keep them entertained. It keeps their minds AND their teeth busy Of course, keep an eye on their eating and pooping habits like usual!

i do something very similar.  the two corners of the living room (on either side of the couch) where there is carpeting but we don’t use the space for anything, i have a flattened triple thick cardboard box laying on the ground, and surrounded wioth NIC cubes protecting the molding and walls.  it covers the corners of the carpeting (prevents chewing) and gives her something to chew on that can be easily replaced.  i have some of her toys and a blanket in the corners as well, so she can have a quiet space to go to when she’s out of her cage if she wants.  it works wonders and i don’t worry about her chewing things she’s not supposed to.

what frustrates my wife and I more than anything is that we will try to buy toys for the buns to play with and they want nothing to do with them.  yet if I make a costco run and leave some boxes laying on the floor they have a field day digging and chewing on them.  it is really amusing when they will jump inside of a box and attempt to destroy it from the inside out.

^^^i have found that my rabbit is more fond of toys that can be demolished.  i can give her a plastic rattle or a toilet paper tube and guess what she plays with… the one she can tear apart.  have you tried the willow toys or grass balls that are available here on Binky Bunny?  Meadow loves those, they are relatively cheap and it helps her get some of her chewing outta the way.  plus, they’re perfectly safe to eat.

yes I have a whole box of wicker balls, my rabbits have only been semi-interested in them.  i do stick hay into tp rolls and the like those.

My rabbit is the same, he will literally sit chewing paper! But he’s always been fine with his appetite and pooing so I’ve never been worried- the yellow pages is one of his favourites and that has soy based ink so it’s very safe- when we first got him he would eat wallpaper straight from the walls, yet somehow survived with no health problems! I keep on eye out for any changes in him but as terrible as it sounds, I can’t bubble wrap him from exploring (he’d probs try to eat the bubble wrap!) and even if it was to shorten his life span over time, at least he’s having a happy life having fun!
