I’m sorry that I’m going to sound cynical, but I just have to say Do not believe everything you read on Craigslist.
When it comes to the bunny and other animal ads, the otherwise good website can get pretty sketchy. People make up some real sob stories to unload an animal they just won’t care for, or buy one and resell it, etc. etc. There’s no real way to check for truth or even the real identity of the poster. It can be dangerous to respond to some ads, as has come up in the news in recent years.
I think that’s why it’s better to limit your time reading Craigslist ads. Certainly consider whether you want to re-post their ads on a ligitamate site like this one. There are shelters. There is a humane society. There is animal control a phone call away in every county. A good animal control officer will get an animal out of danger and into a shelter faster than any ad on a website. It’s very, very sad when someone wants to dump a pet. But please consider whether you want to be the one to help them do it. They have more options than a deadline ad suggests.
P.S. Just to let you know I am not trying to slam Craigslist in general, I want to say that I got my current job – the best on I’ve had in years – by an ad on Craigslist from someone who had never posted there before, and I had only been reading for a few months. It was a great link to a place I knew of very well. I was able to look them up to confirm the ad before responding.
