Cage Setups!

So currently my bunnies are in C and C cages. As I’m trying to get them bonded, once they’re bonded I’ll need to make a bigger cage. I decided I don’t really want to make a bigger C and C cage, so any ideas? X pen is probably my biggest idea right now – I really like the idea!

So what are your setups? Just curious about how other people did it! And also, do you think building a bigger c and c cage is better than an x pen?

I think the C&C vs x-pen debate depends on your individual bunnies. Some rabbits are notorious escape artists, good at jumping/climbing/digging/pushing their way out of anything. A rabbit like that I would not trust to keep in an x-pen

My two are in a combined setup. 2x5x3 two level C&C for when we can’t supervise (at work and sleeping), and attached x-pen for whenever we’re at home (I’d like to expand their access to the rest of the room, but was waiting for better litter habits, now I just have to bunny proof). Most days they have at least 6 hours with access to the pen, although they seem to spend at least half of that sleeping on their upper level, lol.

Here’s some pics, ignore the toilet paper tubs on top of the x-pen, they’re there because I have the connecting pegs upside down, which means they stick above the height of the fence, the tubes prevent me stabbing myself on them when I step over.

LOL – I can’t believe your buns aren’t over that before you have time to say “err sweetie, I think we should have got the XL height !”….

Haha, I know. Bandit would have been over it in a second. These two just aren’t fussed, although Apollo has tested the strength of the corners.

I built a cage for mine out of wood as it was easier (personal opinion) than CC. plus I had a perfect nook for it now its like a built in bunny cabinet! they can chew on all parts of their house (the “walls” are caging) which they love. But before we did that we used baby gates. Same concept as the xpen but cheaper (but only if you don’t do like I did and buy the flimsy ones. we had to reinforce them with cage since he chewed right through them!) and used a fish pond net over the top. When we first made that set up he was still little and we thought no way could he jump out. Well mom and dad ran to the store and came back to find a very please with himself bunny boy exploring the room. So if you decide to do an x pen and your buns are jumpers the net is a great thing. its still “open” to light and air but keeps them in. once he realized it was there he stopped trying to jump. but make sure its the kind with small holes so bunny heads can’t go through!

If you can find CC for a good price (I couldn’t) they’re great and easy to configure. Xpens are super easy. Wood is great but more permanent and requires more work up front.
