I am looking to build a cage out of the crates that you can buy at Target.  Does anyone have any pictures of their cages so I can get some ideas.   The cage is for a samll 1 yr old male lionhead rabbit, that thinks he is a diva!  haha!

the cool habitats gallery (underneath BUNNY INFO at the top) has pics of NIC grid condos. there is a lot you can do! be aware, Target has changed their grids so they are no longer suitable for condos. do you have a wal-mart near you?

do you want various levels, and do you know how large you want to make it?

I am not sure how large yet.  There is a walmart nearby.  I think WalMarts are unforunately a dime a dozen these days.

I got my cubes from Target. The white/black ones had some grids that had really large spacing (like 2″x2″), which I think is why everyone says they are unsuitable now. However, the same brand in chrome are entirely the 1″x1″ smaller spaced grids. They cost a little bit more per box than the white/black ones, but I thought it was worth it since they’re actually usable. Plus I avoid shopping at Walmart whenever possible!

I have seen the chrome, black and colored cubes with the 1×1″ holes at Target within the past month. The ones that had 3×3 holes were actually on sale this past week ($15).

Totally a great idea to build the cage. Look at lots of pictures first-don’t spend all that time and then go ‘darn, I could have done that instead!” It’s a great weekend project with a friend or a SO too!!

if you can find them with the right spacing (1×1 inch), i’d suggest you get one or two extra boxes beyond what you need for the condo. they come in handy for bunny-proofing areas…  they’re always great to have on hand…

I’m glad that my target still sells the 1×1 inch cubes as well at the other bad ones!

You do have to be careful NOT to get the ones with the 3 x 3 inch holes in the grid. They now sell both sizes, and some now seem to only seel the 3 x 3, so be sure to check the box carefully.

I’ve seen more of the boxes with ALL 1×1″ grids lately, although if the 3×3″ ones are on sale and that’s all you can find, they do contain 9 of the 1×1″ grids, and 14 of the 3×3″ grids, so they still might be worth picking up. You can still use the 3×3″ grids for reinforcement, or ziptie some cardboard to them. Just make sure you don’t put them anywhere your buns could potentially stick their heads through them.

Try Walmart, they still sell the ones with the smaller grids in them.
