Has anyone tried Burns Welsh Meadow hay? If so, what are your thoughts? I’m going to get a bag this week to see if Peanut and Buttercup like it. Also, I’m looking at Burns Green Oat hay. As I already provide green oat Readigrass, is it worth it to get the burns hay too?

I have tried Burns Welsh Meadow hay but our buns don’t like it that much, but they are SUPER picky about hay. However, they absolutely love the Burns Green Oat hay. Although, the first time we got it it wasn’t very green but it has been the past two times so not sure if it depends on the time of year as to how good it is I’d say its worth getting that one as it’s a lot different to the readigrass one (we have that one too).

Since you’ve tried the green oat Readigrass have you tried the original one as well? (the one in the green bag) Our picky buns can’t get enough of it, never seen them eat so much hay!

Aw that’s a shame, hopefully mine like it. They can be really fussy too! I’m definitely going to try the burns oat hay then too.

I actually have considered trying the original Readigrass but wasn’t sure if it had enough fibre? I’m sure my two would devour it tho!

Mine absolutely love the original (green bags) of Readigrass too, but someone just told me its too high in calcium so I’m trying to wean them off it except as a small hay topping. I’m not sure about fibre. I would be happy to hear that’s not true though if anyone else has extra info.

I did also just find a great new website, timothyhay.co.uk, where they do 9kg bags of super fresh green timothy for £22 including next day delivery. My buns ate it with surprisingly little fuss. In fact, they chewed a hole in the side of the bag before i’d got round to opening it.

I’m not sure about the fibre either but it’s better than them not eating hay at all – which mine won’t do sometimes . In terms of calcium, I think I read that it wasn’t true about the calcium content but I can’t remember exactly, I do know there is a lot of conflicting stuff on the internet about it though. I have been feeding my buns readigrass for a while though and they haven’t had any problems so far but you could always try alternating different hays each day if you’re worried about the calcium/fibre. I try to do this quite a bit anyway as mine get bored of the same hay

I’ll definitely check out that website, thanks for the heads up! I usually do a big order from hay experts

Ooh I’ll check that out. Thanks for the tip. Thanks for the heads up about timeforpaws on my other thread too – I’ll be placing an order with them tonight

Sirius&Luna told me about http://www.timeforpaws.co.uk for cheaper Readigrass (and other hays) I usually order from hay experts too but will be changing that!

Haha yes, I’m always on the lookout for different websites.
Timeforpaws has much cheaper bags of the Friendly hays than anywhere else I’ve found, but I thought I should try out some different Timothy too since that website came highly recommended, and hopefully 9kg will last a bit longer!

Bam gets Burn’s green oat hay. I buy it from VetUK. I haven’t tried the Welsh meadow.
