I’ve been taking Puddles to the vet every day (except Sunday; they were closed) for the past week for a fluid injection because he has crystals in his bladder.

I noticed this morning that his testicles were filled with fluid. Could this be a sign that they have given him too much fluid? Or maybe they injected it wrong?

I can’t find anything online as to what it could be. It has to be from the fluid injection. I am going back to the vet this evening.

He was still active and eating this morning so they’re not irritating him. I’m just worried they might start irritating him and he will pop one.

Has anyone had this situation before or know what is wrong?

I have no idea but have you checked if there is an Emergency vet in your area? Those kinds are open 24/7 (I only say this because of your being closed on Sunday) Did you try asking the vet that concern?

            Hey Puddles,

When you say fluid injections are you talking about sub-q fluids? The ones they give to keep them well-hydrated? If so, I do those myself at home and it typically creates a big ball which my vet told me to rub back and forth until it flattens out a bit and evens out.

For his bladder crystals, are they giving these injections in the top of the back/base of the neck or where? It seems odd that his testicles would be full of that kind of fluid. Like in humans when given an IV of fluids, you can’t really get “too much” per say. It’s like drinking a lot of water, you’d just pee a ton.

Also, the ball would be forming at the injection site.

Sub-q fluids, even when injected on the back, can really be affected by gravity and make that bubble go all the way down, especially if the skin is loose. But just as tanlover said, you should notice the fluid ball at the injection site immediately after. You mentioned you were worried about possibly “popping” one. Are they hard? Is he peeing a lot? With all those fluids, you should really notice the extra output too.

How is your boy? Has the fluid gone down?

Sorry it took so long to reply! The fluid went away within two days. The weirdest thing ever…
