Chewie just had his neuter surgery today, and he is doing well. He is chomping down his parsley, hay, kale, and drinking his water. The vet gave us medication to feed him through a syringe. Any tips on how to do this? Thanks

That’s great news! I would try the bunny burrito method first, and if that doesn’t work then I would hide the meds in some food. You want him to get the full dose, but don’t worry if you can’t get the full dose all at once – ie. if he will only take 70% of the syringe, wait 15 minutes and give him the other 30%. Whenever I give Luna meds, it’s less stressful on the both of us if I don’t get anxious or feel like I have to rush.

Great news that he’s eating  I totally cheated and just put medication on a lettuce leaf.

I’ve done that with Bandit in the past, only he was able to smell the meds. So I would offer an unmedicated piece, and right as he was about to jump down I’d switch it out for the medicated piece and he’d get a big surprise, lol.

                  He must have felt cheated

I put the syringe through the bars of his enclosure, just to see how he would react to it, and he started sucking on it. After I put the rest into his mouth, he lapped up all of the medicine that had spilled on the floor. So far, so good.

                      Azerane – lol very sneaky.

Wicket – nice! I give Luna meds the same way (minus the cage). If you’re like me and don’t give the syringe through the side of the mouth, just remember to go slow, and avoid plunging the meds toward the back of the throat so that there isn’t any incident of aspiration.

He can’t run or jump for about 7 days, so he is in the bottom floor of his cage. Poor thing

Good that he’s eating!! I had to keep my bun Chom confined to a small area for a day or so, and I felt bad too, but it really is in their best interest.
